Help with permissions
Hi Folks. I'm trying to setup Samba and having a bit of a
problem... However, I'm not sure if it's a Samba issue, or NFS issue.
The setup is as follows:
Server 1 --> exports /storage/ftpusers
In that folder, there are numerous user folders that are owned by
each specific user.
Server 2 --> nfs mounts server1:/storage/ftpusers as /mnt/ftpusers
At the same time, it also has /mnt/ftpusers setup to be shared
through Samba as follows:

AIX SSH 2.x ssh and /etc/ftpusers rcp rlogin WRONG !
IF ssh is a replacement for rlogin, rsh etc I can accept it respecting
rlogin=false as rlogin does and rsh does not, however scp is a replacement
for rcp, and rcp does NOT use rlogin attribute, so the implementation is
NOT standard as scp fails if rlogin=false, but rcp succeeds, as documented.

ssh - NO SALE or NO GIVE ?
Thanks to everyone who has replied to my emails so far - to summarise:
AIX allows setting of rlogin=false and and a su group, or a list of users
that are permitted to "su" to root. ( or other functional ids )
This means with entries in /etc/ftpusers, it is possible to :
1/ Track who used root via sulog and or external logging
2/ Protect root even if the root password is compromised
3/ Limit to a list of users who can access root
To acheive the functional equivalent of this in ssh we require:
rlogin still false to stop telnet connections, bu...

Samba with legacy LDAP
Hello lists,
Standard ISP hosting with virtual users here. So we already have an
existing system setup, based around OpenLDAP data for customer
information. Currently for WWW hosting, users have FTP access. But FTP
seems to be a hurdle for certain users, so I was thinking about also
offering SMB access in parallel with FTP, so they could just MAP a drive
letter to their WWW area.

NFS locking ...maybe?
...ues I had (previous message was titled
'Samba permissions...) Now I'm able to get onto the system, browse and
read/copy/delete files off of the shares. What I can't do is put stuff
on because I get a locking error.
The setup is as follows:
Server 1 --> exports /storage/ftpusers
Server 2 --> NFS mounts (autofs) the above export as /mnt/ftpusers
At the same time, it also shares that mount through samba
Server 3 (which is a WinBox) then accesses the above share.
What I CAN do:
From Server 3, I can go into network places, click on the samba

dependency and communication between defined classes
Hi,
i wanted to know how you handle case when classes or define need to
communicate between them. For exemple i got an ftpd define and a
apachevhost define. Both need to know the path where the vhost is set
and this path is defined by the ftpuser home''s directory. How can i ask
information from other define or other classes ? we allready seen that
tag are not reliable as they

[Bug 1284] allow sftp when rlogin=false
...074&group_id=127997&atid=710254
This could still be considered a bug. If you follow the link - a
successful connection via sftp is permitted IF an active ftp connection
would also be successful. On AIX, ftp does not look at
/etc/security/users rlogin setting - instead it is looking at
/etc/ftpusers.
Currently on AIX, when /etc/ftpusers contains "root", root is not
permitted to connect. Not even the password is requested. Denial is
immediate.
Using sftp -
* when PermitRootLogin=no - connection is denied - per design
* when PermitRootLogin=yes, regardless of UseLogin setting and

First steps in Dovecot; IMAP not working
Hello,
First of all, I'm sorry if you received this mail twice; I haven't received
it the first time so I think it was lost. Second attempt.
I've made some more tests and I still can't receive mails.
Outlook doesn't complain about anything, no error message; the mails that
are supposed to be received just won't appear.
In the mail logs, I find this line (other lines are

[OT]: Passing password for a command on the fly
Hi,
First things first, sorry for the off-topic, but I've already burned
my eyes Googling and couldn't find the answer to what I need and I
remembered asking here, because I'm a long time CentOS and its mailing
list user.
Again, my apologies.
I have this command to create an FTP account:
