cygwin rsync performance and bandwidth between two w2003 servers
I have two Windows 2003 Standard Edition Server with 2x 3,0 GHz P4 and 4 GB RAM. On each server rsync runs as cygwin daemon (rsync version 2.6.6; protocol version 29). The two servers are connected through a 2 MBit VPN link. When I sync a single large file or a whole directory, rsync only uses 50% of the available bandwidth. When I do the same between windows and linux server, rsync takes the

confidence interval in "predict.lm"
I am studying statistics using R and a book "Understandable Statistics", by Brase and Brase. The book has two worked examples for calculating a confidence interval around a predicted value from a linear model. The answers to the two examples in the book differ from those I get from R. The regression line, the standard error, and the predicted value in R and the book all agree for the

Logon script
Hello, I am having a little problem with executing logon scripts on Win95 clients, logging into Samba Netlogon service. When a user logges in, a MS-DOS prompt shows up and quicky disappears. Then I get "Please Wait While your logon script executes". It hangs at that point. A user has to hit cancel to start his win95 session. I have done the logon script in MS-DOS editor. I have the

icecast internet access
I have ices/icecast running and can listen on my home network. I am using port 8020 because my isp blocks 80, and 8080 is being used. I have a dyndns address and webhop. My problem is that I can't seem to get the audio page and stream outside of my home network. My router and firewall are open correctly as far as I can tell. Is there an easy guide to set up the webpage for outside

About using root...
Being new to Linux and all, I have another question that I'm sure seems "elementary", but hey, I've gotta start somewhere. My question is this: do I need to be logged in as root to stop/start samba? If I log in as a user, samba commands (samba start, samba stop, etc.) come up with a message "'samba' command not found" So I've been running Samba in root all

ixp400
Hello I am encountering what I believe is a deadlock state when I am transferring traffic via an embedded linux device that only kills traffic with a combination of the Intel ixp400_eth.ko driver and the sch_htb.ko queuing discipline. If I use any other qdisk - including the complex cbq module I encounter smooth sailing. Any suggestions? Thanks Jerry

rsnyc over ssh through scripting and cron...
hello all: I have two machines (approx 50 miles apart) that I need to create a co-located backup solution for. One machine will serve as a central fileserver for an office, and every week a backup of that directory will be sent through the internet to a box I have here locally. I am aware of rsync being able to run over SSH, however I need this to be totally automated (SSH opening, passwords

Adding printer port from Win2K client
Hello all, I have been using the latest edition of "Using Samba" to set up a Samba server in our local school. Everything has been working great thus far. I've been asked to get printers going, so I thought I would share the printers using Samba, and have the clients 'connect' to the printers and get the drivers from the server. This works fine if I install, say, a

Network browsing
Hello all, I've been able to successfully set up a small network, using Samba as a PDC. I'm currently using the latest updated version of Fedora 7, and the latest version of Samba. I'm really new to DNS and WINS, so please excuse my ignorance if I've completely overlooked something. Perhaps you could point me in the right direction... My Samba server is set up as a domain
