no frills samba server
Hi,
Since the fast track to replacing my NT domain controller didn't work
out too well I'm starting with the basics. Right now I have the
drafting office setup going from chapter two of the Samba 3 By Example
book. My smb.conf is as follows:
#########################3###################
[global]
workgroup = MIDEARTH
security = SHARE
[Plans]
path = /plans
read only = Yes

Caller ID and Call Parking on an analog PSTN line?
...new to Asterisk but got some basic functionality going
last night and I'm just giddy to have my own PBX ;-)
Sorry if these are silly questions:
My Asterisk server has the TDM22B (2 FXO, 2 FXS) interface. I have a very
basic PSTN line coming in from the phone company, I tried to get the most
no-frills line possible (didn't pay for caller ID, voice mail, etc.). I know
I can set up voicemail on * on this line. Can I also get caller ID by virtue
of running Asterisk or is that information stripped out by the phone co
before it gets to my box?
Thanks for any advice. I hope to get up to speed on...

Plotting panels at arbitrary places on a map, rather than on a lattice
...uspect colleagues may do this with
shaded maps I would prefer to avoid
them as (a) they present one fact per
country per map (b) they are unfair to
the Netherlands and other high density
countries.
What I would like to do is to make
the background represent Europe (ideally
with a map but that is a frill) then
place simple scattergrams (or radar plots)
on it located roughly where the country
is. Another way of describing it might
be to say that I want something like
the panels produced by lattice but at
arbitrary coordinates rather than on
a rectangular grid. I suspect I have
to do this from scratc...

Broadvoice-like company in Canada?
Hey folks,
I am looking for a no frills bring-your-own-SIP device VOIP company
similar to Broadvoice.
Does anyone have any experience with VOIP in Canada?

next to no frils smb.conf pointing to an existing LDAP on AIX 5.3
Hello all.
Talking about Samba 3.0.28 on AIX 5.3.0.0. I am new to Samba, new to LDAP.
I got a "no frills" config running.
My goal : have a "no frills" + "authenticating against an existing already running LDAP server" config. I imagine I could get my samba server to authenticate against this LDAP Server. "Just point Samba at this LDAP, and that's it !"

PAM configuration
...is? Is there a pam.d directory or does
it just use pam.conf? Do we need to install a control file for OpenSSH?
- Does FreeBSD and other systems where PAM is a port or addon still
use /etc/pam.d?
- Some PAM control files specifiy full paths to the modules, is this
necessary?
- I want a "no-frills" control file which will work with the widest
range of systems and still be secure. Would something like the following
work everywhere? I assume pam_unix is pretty standards, but how about
pam_cracklib, pam_nologin and pam_limits?
I don't really want to ship without pam_cracklib in fo...

help with samba share: one write, many read
I have a no-frill samba server that users can access their home
directories from. Now,
I'd like to set up a share that contains a file that only I can write
to, but anyone can read it.
I only seem to be able to do one or the other. If I can write to it,
no one can read it. If everyone
can read it, I can...

Sweave: pass scale parameter to includegraphics?
...More LaTeX
This produces the LaTeX file test.tex with the
(example) chuck:
% LaTeX stuff
\begin{figure}
\includegraphics{test-001}
\caption{Plot}
\end{figure}
% More LaTeX stuff
But what if I want the chunk to be, for example,
\includegraphics[scale=0.6]{test-001}
rather than the standard, no frills \includegraphics
command? (Why? Because I create a picture that I
want small! Changing width and height within the
<<>>= only changes the appearance of the picture--it
alters the x11 window the plot is produced in, not
the final size in my document.)
How can I inform Sweave to...

[LLVMdev] seeking a mailing list for llvm ports
Hi - sorry to intrude, but can somebody point me to a suitable mailing
list where a tyro can get some advice on modifying an existing llvm
llvm assembler ... rather lightly?
I want to add an extra instruction to the assembler/machine code
supported by the OR1K llvm port.
Well, there are a few more things I need to do, but that will be
good enough to start with!

stubbing a method that yeilds sequential results
...e a Connector class which has a class method ''results'' that
yields results it get from a network service based on a set of
attributes that I pass to it. I am wanting to yield these results
from my Intermediate class up to the next ''level'' so the basic no
frills set up would be this:
class Intermediate
def self.results(attributes)
Connector.each_result(attributes) do |result|
yield result
end
end
end
I''ve worked out how to stub things for the case where the Connector.
each_result method yields a result once

Transferring R results to word prosessors
There has been an incredible number of responses in a short time, with a
number of different suggestions. With hindsight, I must admit I have not
been quite clear, so additional (somewhat lengthy) explanation is needed.
I want to use R in an introductory course on multiple regression (among
other things) starting in two weeks time for students of psychology at my
University. These students

Reliable SIP Trunk Provider
I'm wondering if any other Asterisk users have a recommendation for a reliable SIP Trunk provider that supports Asterisk and offers decent support.
I've worked with Coredial, Broadvox, and Broadvoice and have had some bad experiences with each of these providers.
Broadvoice offers low cost service, however I have constant issues with Broadvoice blocking my customers due to Asterisk

ultra-preliminary C++ wrapper for ogg & vorbis
Hi.
I'm working on a very simple C++ wrapper for parts of libogg and
libvorbis; I thought I would expose it for initial comments and the
generally curious.
No conveniences, no frills. No helpful higher-level abstractions. Just
a translation from ogg_method_foo(ogg_method* data) to classes that hold
the ogg_stream_state etc., so you may type mypage.bos() instead of
ogg_page_bos(&this->data);

recursive penalized regression
...me think that it is either harder than I thought, or that it makes no
sense. I am reposting the message (with some modifications) on the
R-help in a hope to get some leads, suggestions for alternatives, etc.
My apologies to those who had seen this on r-sig-finance.
I want to do a univariate no frills autoregression. The major
non-standard requirements are:
1. When estimating model parameters at time t the algorithm can only use
data up to time t.
2. The weights of the past observations should decay with time, e.g
exponentially
3. ability to apply some penalty, e.g. L2 (ridge), L1 (lasso), etc....

Grobill 0.1 - Asterisk Prepaid Billing
Hi List,
I have slapped together a no-frills yet functional prepaid framework for
Asterisk. It supports concurrent calls and has been built with
robustness, simplicity and billing accuracy in mind.
You can find some docs and the code on the following page:

It's licensed under the GPL. If you have any qu...

wifi sip phone real-world experiences?
I've tested a few different wifi SIP phones for office/factory use, and
generally have been underwhelmed. Before I grab another few and test, I'd
like to ask around here about the candidates.
My requirements are relatively simple:
- WEP/PSK should be supported WITHOUT dragging the phone down
- roaming between access points without dropping the call
- decent set of ringers, not the

Best method for filtering ACKs?
Hello,
I''m wondering which of these filters is the best method for filtering ACK
packages to achieve lowest delay possible on a dsl-link.
This one ist from the wondershaper from the lartc-site:
/sbin/tc filter add dev $EXTIF parent 1:0 protocol ip prio 0 u32 \
match ip protocol 6 0xff \
match u8 0x05 0x0f at 0 \
match u16 0x0000 0xffc0 at 2 \

Abhijit,
Although LLVM has a large code base, the LLVM IR is about as simple as
a compiler IR can get without becoming trivial. And writing a useful
language front-end (say, C) is a lot of work, no matter how simple the
IR. If

...Can I do 20 FXO ports on an asterisk server ? if not, any examples of a "large" number of FXO ports ?
b) Digital ports, I assume 4xE1 ports are available from Varion, or from Digium (not supported by them though) but what about "cheap" channel banks, that are economical and no frills, good for loop start/ground start with no polarity reversal, FXS variety. Any suppliers of these devices, please contact me off list. (haque at at nmc dot dot pradeshta dot dot net).

Simple web server with Apache: web page permissions ?
...currently sinking my teeth into the fine "Definitive Guide to
CentOS". Right now I'm reading the chapter about Apache. One thing
puzzles me: no mention is made of web page permissions.
Let's say I'm using Apache's default configuration for setting up the
most simple no-frills web server, e. g. no virtual hosts, only a series
of static HTML pages in /var/www/html.
Q: what permissions should I define for these pages?
I remember having setup some web servers on Debian, and the tradition
was that everything under /var/www/html (as in this example) was to be
owned by u...
