spelling with <g>?
Hello, What should the following input produce? Dutch has shifted Germanic g to the velar fricatives [?] and [x], but retained the spelling with <g> and thus at least a visual similarity to German; English and Frisian have shifted g to [j] before palatal vowels The Dingus says: <p>Dutch has shifted Germanic g to the velar fricatives [?] and [x], but retained the spelling with...

Regression in wideband encoding quality between b1 and rc1
...red to us that there seems to have been a regression in the quality of encoding since version beta1. We are compressing some 22khz wave files in wb mode with maximum quality / complexity in VBR, and the result was really great with speex beta1. With rc1 (or beta3), there is a clear degradation for fricatives, which gives a very audible (and annoying) feeling of a muffled voice. This problem does not seem to affect CBR encoding, only VBR. It does not appear to affect 16k files as much either. Hope that will help you improve speex again! Blaise P.S.: Is there any plan to make uwb mode really usable? A...

Psycho-acoustics research
Hi. I'm an undergraduate linguistics major and computer science minor at the University of Colorado in Boulder, and am taking a couple classes this semester which give me the opportunity to do a research project - one on introductory acoustics in the physics department, and one in the linguistics department on phonetics and phonology. I've got an idea, but I'd like to hear from anyone

Regression in wideband encoding quality between b1 and rc1
...on beta1. Just curious, did you identify where exactly the regression occurred? > We are compressing some 22khz wave files in wb mode with maximum > quality / complexity in VBR, and the result was really great with > speex beta1. The encoder will give you a warning about that. You can use the resampler to down-sample to 16 Hz. > This problem does not seem to affect CBR encoding, only VBR. It does > not appear to aff...

interpolation of LSFs and bandwidth expansion
hi, thanks for answers to my previous qns. have some more of them. hope it's ok to ask questions on the basics of CELP here. let me know if it's not. 1) synthesized filter stability after interpolation of LSFs I read from some resources that if LSF representation of LPCs is used for interpolation, stability of the synthesis filter is guaranteed. from another source, i read that the
