R users, In S, there was a function called usa() that would draw the map of the United States, plus it had other options for graphics. I have looked but I can't find the equivalent in R. Is there one? Thanks, Jason

In Germany the Unemployment Agency uses a sectioning of the german map that is different from the usual Administrative Boundaries. Some demographic data are available in Administrative Boundaries only, some in Unemployment Boundaries only. I would like to generate estimates in one boundary system of data availabe in the other boundary system, and would appreciate advice concerning the following

Dear R people, I am wondering how difficult it would be to produce graphs based on maps in R (like "a county is red where x is high"). I reckon this requires the coordinates for the polygons that make up the map and also a mapping to a set of identifiers to assign colours, hatches, etc. Would it be possible to pass R a vector graphics of the map and back out the polygon definitions
