R CMD check for the R code from vignettes -- thread fraying?
I noted Duncan's comment that an answer had been provided, and went to
the archives to find his earlier comment, which I am fairly sure I saw a
day or two ago. However, neither May nor June archives show Duncan in
the thread except for the msg below (edited for space). Possibly tech
failures are causing misunderstandings.

How can I draw bars
I need to make a graphic to show problems on different parts of
chromosomes (think of a graphic showing the number of frayed threads
as colors along different parts of a worn out rope). I want to draw
bars going from left to right across a page and color different parts
of the bars in different shades. Each graphic will need to have
several bars of different lenghts corresponding to the different
lenghts of the chromso...

need path information for installation
Hi folks,
Yet one more newbie into the fray. I'm trying to upgrade a Red Hat 7.2 test box from whatever version came with it to 2.2.3a...
Here are the steps I have done so far:
1. backed for the conf, smbusers, and smb file
2. stop the smb service
3. ran the command: rpm -e samba
4. tarred the source files to /usr/local/src/samba-2.2.3/source
5. now I'm trying to run the ./configure

commandArgs usage and --args invokation
Dear R experts:
I am a bit stymied by how the argument picking-off works in R batch file usage.
$ cat commandArgs.R
cat(" Command Line Arguments were ", commandArgs(), "\n");
$ /usr/bin/R CMD BATCH commandArgs.R --args 1 2 3
$ /usr/bin/R --args 1 CMD BATCH commandArgs.R
... I am now getting into interactive mode ?! I guess it really is skipping the
rest of the command line

Call Wrapup time for agents.
Hi all,
I was wondering if there was a way to deal with "wrap up" time for
agents slightly better than we do it at the moment.
At the moment, we set a wrap up time of 20 seconds for each of our call
queues. The problem with this is that sometimes it's either too long or
two short.
I would essentially like to have all agents put into wrap up straight
after a call, and have to

NetworkWorld article on Open Source Telephony
An interesting article for those needing ammunition to sell Asterisk within
their organisation or to others:

Thanks. I'll also test isl/cloog git against gcc trunk to make sure graphite
hasn't regressed. It already has frayed a bit without any isl/cloog updates...

CentOS Participation in GSOC-2015
Hi Johnny,
This is to enquire as to whether CentOS will be participating in GSOC
this year?
The Mentoring Organization applications are now being accepted for Google

...terisk system (asterisk 1.4.26,
dahdi 2.2.0.1, aex800 w/vpm module) to a "new" location, a building
that's nearly 150 years old. I was not personally able to go there,
but the person who did the move said the building's demarc room was
"scary"-- water leaks, jumbled and frayed wiring, and all sorts of
other fun.
The echo on their POTS lines has proven to be quite problematic. The
hybrids are balanced, txgain and rxgain are optimized individually for
all channels, and the vpm module on the card is doing its job. For
many calls, this has been effective. Still, echo rem...

both support and be supported by the wider development community that
provides the packages giving R its strength. Unfortunately, I sense that
the time demands of what is now a major software system are such that
communications (and tempers) are getting frayed. I urge attention to
this, and also to ideas of organizational behaviour and evolution, so we
keep R healthy. Those who know me will realize I'm willing to put in
time to act as the glue in building communications.
I'm also a bit surprised nobody has mentioned the mirrors -- if the

Flac and SourceForge
Hi, I'm Rich Bowen, the Community Manager at SourceForge. I was just chatting with Fingolfin on IRC about the state of the Flac project, and I wanted to let you know that I've jumped into the fray. As Community Manager, I'm interested in the health of projects, and I spend a lot of time looking at projects like Flac that still get huge numbers of downloads, but haven't cut a

The Origins of R AND CALCULUS
An amusing afterthought : What is a rival software (ahem!) was planting
this, hoping for a divide between S and R communities.or at the very minimum
hoping for some amusement. an assumption or even a pretense of stealing

Most users of softwares don't really care about who gets credit ( Who wrote

Postgresql vs MySQL
Is there any reason to avoid using postgresql for small web apps? That is, is it''s
overhead so large that the lighter MySQL will work substantially better for small apps on
small machines? Or are they very similar in performance and configuration?
I''ve used MySQL but postgresql has its appeals and I''m wondering if I need to keep MySQL
around at all.
On the other
