setup questions- many users, little use
...1 from SBC? And what kind of reliability can we expect from this setup? Also if anyone has a setup similar to this please let me know how it worked out. We will most likely publish a case study, specific configuration guide, and extensive documentation after we finish implementation, as other fraternities and sororities on campus have also expressed interest in our approach to IT management. Thanks in advance for any help, Bill Lattner

v3.0.0, AD, 2k3 mumbles
I'm running a Samba 3.0.0 server in production in security = ADS mode against a W2k ADS server. Works just fine, thanks! We're sort of under pressure to regrade to a 2003 AD server, which sent me trying stuff out a bit. Meager results. The 3.0.0 I have (linked with MIT krb5-1.2.8) refuses to verify incoming tickets: [2003/10/28 16:27:36, 3]

cuesheets w/ PERFORMER & TITLE track info
Hi there, is there any specific reason for ignoring TITLE and PERFORMER info when importing CD-TEXT cuesheets into flac files? (These two fields have not always been used but they have become widely supported by now). One may answer that the preferred method for getting this kind of info for a cuesheet-flac would be CDDB, but CDDB info is not always reliable. In my opinion the goal "Now a CD

Using Gauss with R
Dear All, I am a long time S user and now a convert to R. As part of my general work in time series I occasionally assist groups of econometricians and others in the finance fraternity. In particular, that community has invested a large amount of time and effort in writing specialised code in Gauss. I am unfamiliar with Gauss (although I have used Matlab which is, I understand, a comparable

Question about subfolders
Hi, I've got an old dovecot installation (0.99.10.5) which is used as the back-end for a squirrelmail web mailer. Now I need to decide whether to update it to a newer version of dovecot or to switch to a different software. One feature that I really need is to be able to place messages and subfolders in a folder at the same time. This is with mbox format files (I can't use maildir). The

Problems with userPassword when it's base64 encoded
I'm switching from OpenLDAP to the newly released Fedora Directory Server (formely known as the Netscape Directory Server) as a LDAP backend for my Samba domain. I'm now faced with a problem regarding how Fedora DS handles the userPassword field. Unlike OpenLDAP it encodes it in base64 so instead of reading userPassword: {SSHA}0lP+r3Z1NVan7Caf4CG9oSgnTbQRrv/p it reads: userPassword::

Size of R user base
I have been trying to determine the size of the R user base, and was asked to share my findings with this mailing list. Although I still don't have any definite estimate of this number, I do have some interesting and indicative information: 1. It appears that there are about 100,000 S-PLUS users. Rationale: According to Insightful's 2002 Annual Report, over 100,000 people use

MIT vs GPL vs LGPL for open source project
I intend to release a project I wrote with Rails. What is the right licensing scheme for a web application (content managing system) which could grow with plugins and add-ons ? Personally, I would prefer the GPL but does that mean any add-on to the CMS (like task management) will have to be GPL ? If some people contribute to the code could it still be double-licenced so that the people who
