rsync backup to fileserver - mystery
I have an Intel SS4000E fileserver that I've been using for several years to backup my home directory to. I have a daily cron job that runs the following command: rsync -av --delete /home/frankcox/ /mnt/fileserver/backup I have a directory named misc/sheet-music/classical. About a week ago I created a new subdirectory there, /home/frankcox/misc/sheet-music-classical/Russian\ and\ Eastern\ European/ Notice the spaces in the subdirectory name; I don't know if that's relevant or not...

Mysterious versioning reported by file command
I just noticed this, which doesn't actually seem to affect anything but does create a mystery: [frankcox at mutt temp]$ cat test.c #include <stdio.h> int main(void) { printf("Hello world\n"); return 0; } [frankcox at mutt temp]$ gcc -o test test.c [frankcox at mutt temp]$ file test test: ELF 64-bit LSB executable, x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked (uses shared libs), for...

Multiple network cards - routing issue?
I have a Centos 5 machine here that, up until about a year ago, was happily running Icecast and serving streaming audio through through three network connections, consisting of one "local" connection (local address 192.168.1.5) and two cable modems to talk to the outside world. We shut this down about a year ago, but now I am attempting to get it going again on one outside connection

The -a flag intends to preserve user:group and timestamps, and despite the explicit 'archive...

This is my main desktop computer and it isn't any kind of a virtual system. I do run VirtualBox on it occasionally, though. Rsync Setup
I have seen many ways to setup a rsync backup but I have never got one to work on a centos machine. I have used 4.5 and 5.0 If anyone could point me in the right direction, much thanks. vnc - single application or a "remote localhost" on Firefox
Normally I use VNC-over-SSH to provide a complete desktop to a remote user. Is there a way to provide a single application to a user instead of a complete desktop? In this case I am looking for a method to provide remote report-viewing access to LedgerSMB for a company's outside accountant. LedgerSMB runs through a web browser (i.e. http://localhost/ledgersmb) so he doesn't need or want
