The Public Appology To Francis Cianfrocca
Dear Mongrel Users,
It appears that Francis still isn''t satisfied with my attempts to
apologize and he''s now asked me privately to retract my statements.
So, just to be sure he finally gets it:
I retract my statements that Francis and his friends are "shady" and
"desperate for cash". He is in no way...

Garbled screen after RAM Scrub on boot
...GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_XEN_REPLACE_DEFAULT="console=hvc0 earlyprintk=xen nomodeset"
I have tried setting (for a 1024x768 resolution) vga=792 in the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX and commenting out GRUB_GFXMODE and GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX, but this makes no difference
What am I doing wrong?
Regards
Francis

PCI Passthrough not working
...the PCI device on the DomU matching the Dom0 Device
usb usb1: SerialNumber: 0000:00:1a.0
instead of 0000:00:00.0
However I now have this error
ehci_hcd 0000:00:1a.0: Unlink after no-IRQ? Controller is probably using the wrong IRQ.
does this give a clue as to what is going on?
Many thanks
Francis

samba and writing through hard/symbolic links
...a thousand times before but can't seem to find anything
about on google. i am no expert and i don't know much samba lingo but i hope you understand me.
If you open a symlink (or hard link for that matter) in windows (2000) over samba, say a blah.doc
file, which looks like
-rw-rw-r-- 1 francis galexia 2567 Feb 5 12:33 blah.doc > /somewhere/blah.doc
Then if you make changes to it in Word, and then save it, when you go back to the directory there
will be
-rw-rw-r-- 1 francis galexia 2980 Feb 5 12:35 blah.doc

Strategy for fts and Replication
Hi Philon,
Thanks a lot for your thoughts!
Can I ask you if using Solr improved things for you? I have a mailbox
with 15 years of e-mail and searching things take a long time.

strange matching: maybe a multilanguage collation problem?
...in
general, but is this because Ferret views \304\237 as a word break,
and splits the name into two words? If so, is there a way you''d
recommend to get around this -- keeping in mind that we''ve got names
in romanized forms of many different languages?
Thanks in advance,
Francis

Trying to use solr
...an fts engine with dovecot. My version is
2.3.7.2 under Ubuntu 20.04.
I installed solr 7.7.3 and then 8.6.0 to see if this was a
version-related error. I copied the schema from 7.7.0 as many people
said this was fine.
I get the following error when trying to reindex a user's mailbox:

Simple backup of maildir folder
...even install postfix (that's where my users are
configured) to get it all backed up? I tried to install dovecot and
running doveadm backup, but it complains the users are not there.
- What's the simplest way to configure dovecot without mirrowing my
server so that this can work?
Best,
Francis

[PATCH] drm/bochs: Fix the ID mismatch error
...attached via PCIe the
probe of the Bochs device fails with:
[drm:bochs_hw_init] *ERROR* ID mismatch
This was introduced by this commit:
7780eb9ce8 bochs: convert to drm_dev_register
To fix the error we ensure that pci_enable_device() is called before
