Samba setup for CentOS-4.4 workstations

Our fqdn for the Microsoft domain is "brockley.harte-lyne.ca" I have set up the samba server setting to this: Basic: Workgroup: brockley Description: <fqhn of Linux workstation> Security: Auth Mode: ADS Auth. Server: BRDC-01.Brockley.Harte-Lyne.ca Kerberos Realm: blank (and I cannot set it so that the setting is preserved) Encrypt Passwords: Yes Guest Account: No Guest Account Regards, -- James B. some win machines see samba, some not.
...local net. I have tried both samba 2.0.5a (RH6.1 default) as well as samba 2.0.7. I can use 'smbclient' on host itself to list shares as well to connect to a share. I CAN also use another Linux box on totally different net to connect to the SAMBA on the box in the question (using FQHN) and I can login into share and list the files. NOW, the problem, none of the machines on the net except WinNT WS SP5 (one machine) can see the sama server in network neight. I have tried 'net use g: \\smbsrv\share' but it would not work for me either :-( I don't think WINS is...

Exporting keytab for SPN failure
...tunately for me, I don’t use random password for the user account, but rather a password generator and an encrypted storage for them so I can retrieve them. However, for Rowland’s wiki needs, what would be the correct way/command to export this so that the SPN listed is the one intended (i.e. HTTP/fqhn at realm) since using —principal=user exports a keytab with a user at realm, not the intended SPN? I’m guessing we do it as you have suggested by leaving off the realm, and then for the added algorithms, we add them via ktutil. Does that sound right? Mike

/etc/hosts - hostname alias for 127.0.0.1
Can anyone point out reasons why it might be a bad idea to put this sort of line in your /etc/hosts file, eg, pointing the FQDN at the loopback address? 127.0.0.1 hostname.domain.com hostname localhost localhost.localdomain

Join AD fails DNS update
This topic has been on the list two years ago, already, but apparently to no conclusion. I'm trying to join a Debian Wheezy machine (Samba 3.6.6) to my freshly made backports AD (Samba 4.1.7). This is what I see: root at samba4:/# net ads join -U Administrator at AD.MICROSULT.DE Enter Administrator at AD.MICROSULT.DE's password: Using short domain name -- AD Joined 'SAMBA4' to

Puppet 3.0: Not authorized to call find on /file_metadata, more issues?
...w 10.101.0.0/24 > allow 10.103.0.0/24 In the log above, clearly the connection is authorized. Info: mount[files]: allowing 10.101.0.0/24 access I''m not sure of the reference to the error "Warning: Host is missing hostname and/or domain" as it''s clearly a FQHN (yes, I edited it here). So I''m pretty stumped here. Our only other option is to just downgrade back to 2.7.x and wait for these issues to get worked out. Any pointers would be appreciated.
