TCITex and R
...hanks to the program Scientific Word, which comes with TCITex. However, RCMD etc don't recognize this latex at the moment. Does anyone have any advice on what might be needed to make RCMD use SciWord's installation of TCITex-- paths, environment variables, etc etc? Various R docs recommend fptex or MikTex implementations of latex, but I'm a bit reluctant to put these on, primarily in case doing so somehow stuffs up the workings of Scientific Word in a way that I don't know enough to fix. In case it's not obvious already, I should add that I am blissfully ignorant about how late...

error in building R-1.9.0 sources under Win32
I am trying to compile the R-dev sources on WinXP using mingw 3.1.0-1 and fpTeX 0.7. In the past I have been able to build the sources fine but now I receive an error in the process that I havent seen reported on the list before. Everything works fine until I get to 'make docs'. I now get the message below while building the R-admin manual (refman.pdf builds fine) a...

problem building R packages in windows xp
Dear R users, I am having problems building R packages in Windows xp. I have followed the instructions from Peter E. Rossi in Documentation -> Other, except for the TeX version (fpTeX), since when I go to the recommended webpage, it is said that fpTeX has been discontinued. I have MikTeX in my computer, and I have followed the recommendations in http://www.murdoch-sutherland.com/Rtools/miktex.html. I have followed the so called Workaround 4. After running R CMD Rd2txt and R...

TeX distribution on Windows
I'm looking for a Windows distribution of TeX that works with R, after a few years' absence from Windows. On Duncan Murdoch's Rtools page fptex is still recommended, but it turns out that fptex is "defunct" as of May 2005, see http://www.metz.supelec.fr/~popineau/xemtex-7.html So, what is suggested? TUG (tug.org) recommends something called proTeXt, which is said to be "based on MiKTeX", for Windows users. Since Mik...

Windows vignettes, shQuote, texi2dvi
...the svn logs. Just wanted to point out that this will favorably affect texi2dvi on Windows which previously used UNIX quoting and so generated an incorrect Windows command. (Note that texi2dvi is used when creating vignettes.) Another problem is that the recommended tex distribution for Windows, fptex, does not have texi2dvi in the first place. The alternative, MiKTeX, is harder to install than fptex but instructions are available and it does have an equivalent to texi2dvi called texify.exe; however, R still does not know about texify.exe resulting in additional installation hassles, viz. sett...

Package development on Windows - latest guidance?
...look for detailed guidance? I have located it at http://www1.appstate.edu/~arnholta/Software/MakingPackagesUnderWindows.pdf The links to it on the R Project Website are no longer good. I am also reading at the latest version of "Writing R Extensions." 2. LATEX. In Rossi's paper, fpTeX is recommended (I use VTeX in everyday work). However, fpTeX has been discontinued by the author. What is the best way to get an R-compatible TeX installation for this work? (or might I get VTeX working -- its command line is idiosyncratic but it can create PDF, DVI, or HTML directly from LaTeX s...

miktex 2.6 and R
Hi, I am new to Latex and in the process of installing miktex to work with R on windows XP professional. From earlier posts, I see that fptex was the preferred version, but it is no longer available. Now miktex is preferred. However, there are known issues with finding the style files in version 2.4. Fortunately, www.murdoch-sutherland.com/Rtools/mikitex.html provides a series of workarounds. My preference is #4, which appears to be the...

writing a simple package in R 2.0 under Windows XP
Dear listers, I have developped a set of functions that I would like to package on a Windows XP plateform for some friends (this would be more simple than to deliver them as a source text file without handy help). I am working under Windows XP. Of course I have gone through the manual "Writing R extension" and try to sort out what a most simple "packaging" for beginner

Problem Sweaving vignettes: MiKTeX's texi2dvi reports errors
...e, which fails when I try to process the example Sweave-test-1.tex file. I am using Windows binary R distributions, and have the same problem on both the latest developer version (2.2.0 Beta) and the latest patched version (2.1.1) . For the Tex processing, I first tried downloading and installing fpTex, but found that it doesn't have texi2dvi. Some Googling informed me that recent MiKTeX versions now have that function, so I just downloaded that (the small installation). Indeed there is a texi2dvi. The first time I ran it, it downloaded a class file it needed, so now it at least executes. How...

Making a Package
Hello. I have what I know to be a simple question, but never having done anything like this it is pretty tough. I'm trying to write an R package. I have a collection of functions that I loaded into R and then used package.skeleton(). After editing everything in the resulting folder, call it NewPackage, I tried to follow along with some instructions I found for Windows users. I installed

Using \leq for <= in Rd files
Hi, When writing formulae in Rd files I use \leq to get a less-than-or-equal-to sign, as this is what the LaTeX references I consulted suggested. This works correctly for the PDF output (Rcmd Rd2dvi.sh --pdf), however when the Rd file is converted to text or html this command is converted to "<=q". A workaround is to use \le instead of \leq which works with my LaTeX distribution

Hello, I'm trying to create a source package (on Win2k system). I followed the instructions from R-extns.pdf, installed ActivePerl and RTools with setting the DOS path to it. Then I did "Rcmd check" and had an error: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ C:\R\rw2001\bin>Rcmd check D:/prime7/SpnInstall/spectrino * checking for working latex ...latex: not found NO * using log directory

R Newsletter: 1st Call for Articles
Hi, Kurt Hornik and I will start to publish a quarterly electronic ``R Newsletter'' beginning with January 2001 (if all goes well). The idea is to have a mixture of articles describing 1) new features in R itself 2) contributed add-on packages 3) nice applications 4) more general statistical computing issues related to R 5) or ... Rd.sty not found -
Hi I am still trying to wrap up a package using Rcmd (in windows 2000 professional with R 1.8.1). I have made some progress - and now at least Rcmd check works - it still giving me an error message when it creates latex help files though. MikTeX will be assumed in R 2.2.0 in Windows
I've just committed some changes to allow R to be built and to use MikTeX without needing the Rd.sty files to be installed to localtexmf. Unfortunately, the changes are not compatible with other TeX packages, so if you're not using MikTeX you'll need to edit a couple of the config files (or set an environment variable). I'd appreciate hearing of any problems during the alpha
