Wine apps crash
I am running Ubuntu 10.10 and Wine 1.3. For no reason that I know of a couple of apps that had been running fine wouldn't start. I restarted the wine server, rebooted and nothing worked. The apps are Foxit Reader and Foxit Phantom. Oddly, the Googleearth 6.0 was starting and running fine. I tried Winecfg, moving my .wine directory and creating a new one and nothing worked. I eventually uninstalled and completely removed wine and reinstalled from the package manager. Now I have reinstalled the Foxit s...

LyX 1.4.3-5 problem generating PDF documents
...ut would not give me PDF output. Removed 1.5 tried using 1.4.3-5.exe. Result : On loading LyX : lyx: Disabling socket cont class std::basic_string<char struct std: char::char_traits ... Removed and installed from LyXWin143Complete-2-9.exe. Loads okay but no PDF generation. My PDF reader, Foxit Reader loads but nothing is produced. I have managed to produce a postscript doc and convert it using Ghostscript. Could this just be a Foxit problem? As soon as I figure out how to reset the Adobe to default pdf reader I'll try it out.

Crash of latticeExtra graph with Adobe Acro Pro/Reader/Windows/ during print only (display ok).
I created a report with Sweave today, that displayed perfectly on screen, but crashed both Adobe Pro 9.3.1 and Adobe Reader 9.0 on Windows 7. Output with Foxit Reader was flawless. I was able to reproduce a "minimal" example, which is not really minimal but the smallest I could get after 2 hours of wasting paper. Required: latticeExtra calling both panel.xyplot(...) # both lines are required, no problem with only one of them pane...

Adobereader on Centos7 crashes
...get EM To view the full contents of this document, you need a later version of the PDF viewer. You can upgrade to the latest version of Adobe Reader from www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html I spent a lot of time trying to solve this with other pdf viewers, including google-chrome and Foxit, and trickery with ps2pdf and Pdfedit. Nothing works. I installed Adobereader following this: https://www.if-not-true-then-false.com/2010/install-adobe-acrobat-pdf-reader-on-fedora-centos-red-hat-rhel/ The signing of these forms is vital to my organization, so any help would be appreciated....

White lines on persp plots in pdf format
Hi, I am using the persp function to plot 3D surfaces, but the plots have "little white lines" when I print them to a pdf file (visible in Acrobat, Foxit, Evince, Xpdf and Gimp). This does not happen when I create png or tiff images. Here is some sample code: pdf("test.pdf") x <- seq(0,1,length=101) f <- dnorm(x, 0, 0.25) z <- c() for(i in 1:100) z <- cbind(z,f) persp(z, col="red",theta=40, phi=10, shade=1.5, d=...

Message from Wine: IOPL not enabled (again)
...inefile to navigate to the microsoft office 11 binaries on E:. Both winword.exe and excel.exe reports the famous IOPL not enabled message. I have not installed any office related files into my ~/.wine hierarchy. I tried several other windows applications that I have installed on the NTFS partition: Foxit PDF reader starts nicely, Googles Picasa 3 starts nicely, Several programs that I didn't expect to start actually did and Acrobat reader gave me a message that it wanted MSVCR80.dll. Obviously some files needed are not found, but the IOPL warning is only issued by Microsoft apps without further...

debian testing: Problems with R function vignette()
...I am on debian testing, all updates up to date. I am running R via emacs and ess, so I canot know if this is an R or emacs/ess problem. What happens is that I want to read an vignette, and calls something like vignette("mle2", package="bbmle") the pdf file opens (for me in Foxit reader), no problem, but then emacs starts to spew a lot of spam, interfering with the use of ess/R. A small sample: ScheduleTimerQuery called GetDntDataTotal sql exec success GetDntDataQueue sql exec success SchedulePriorTracktype called GetDntDataPriorQueue sql exec success SchedulePriorTrackty...

Window scrolling artifacts in PDF XChange Viewer
...vior in Tracker Software's PDF XChange Viewer (http://www.tracker-software.com/product/pdf-xchange-viewer) When I scroll the window in either direction, I get artifacts from the window frame as evidenced by this screenshot (http://www.rjlsystems.com/~barryc/temp/Screenshot.png) I've tried Foxit too, and it doesn't seem to do this. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make it go away? I'm using the 64-bit edition of Ubuntu 10.04. I've tried the version of Wine 1.2 that exists in Ubuntu's repository and the versions of 1.2 and 1.3.9 in WINE's launchpad PPA as of...

How to Join Mac OSX workstation as AD domain member
...fortunately, Linux doesn't run MS Office and my replacements of LibreOffice and Thunderbird are not quite exact enough, especially with Calc and doing collaberative document exchange with external users using MS Word. Even installing a VM to run Windows-only programs like QuickBooks, Adobe and Foxit had user complications. Therefore, Management decided to pull the plug on going Linux instead of Windows. I, being horrified at the prospect of Windows 10's lack of security and privacy, suggested Mac. Mac potentially incorporates the best of both worlds: the office productivity suite of MS...
