grub issues on reinstall. [resolved-ish]

Perhaps you can move up the boot drive? > <snip> > So I went back to this tonight and fought, fought and fought some more. there was no HBA sort of thing, just a little home machine, the BIOS could see all the drives and were all in the order I expected, but I never got anywhere with trying to write to the MBRs of any of the drives. I could go into recovery mode and get the installed syst...

RHEL 7.3 released
That's all well and good, but how about you actually include the minor number AND the release date? I.e. 7.3-1104 for CentOS 7.3 released today, for example. I'm all for the SIGs to keep track of their own upstreams, but surely there's a better way to do this that doesn't annoy the heck out of us Joe-Blows out here. A lot of us don't have the time (or inclination) to deal

cyrus spool on btrfs?
...gt;> >> Hi, >> >> is there anything that speaks against putting a cyrus mail spool onto a >> btrfs subvolume? >> > I might be the lone voice on this, but I refuse to use btrfs for anything, much less a mail spool. I used it in production on DB and Web servers and fought corruption issues and scrubs hanging the system more times than I can count. (This was within the last 24 months.) I was told by certain mailing lists, that btrfs isn't considered production level. So, I scrapped the lot, went to xfs and haven't had a problem since. > > I'm not...

Dovecot 1.0 on a Mandriva 2007 box
I installed the RPM, and fought with it for days before realizing the packaged config file is incorrect. So I downloaded the latest tarball and used the sample dovecot.conf file. I was finally able to get dovecot to run as long as I leave the mail_location line commented out. If I uncomment the line dovecot complains that &quo...

problem booting files with .bin in their name (eg. memtest86+.bin)
...file "memtest86+.bin" installed into my tftproot, and it was being loaded when I selected that menu item, but it would result in a series of repeating numbers on the left hand side of the screen. Eventually, after trying a million different things, and then asking someone I know who has fought these problems in the past, he suggested that in the past there was an issue with syslinux/pxelinux with files that had .bin as a suffix. So, I tried to remove it, and there we go, it works. I'm using 4.02. if there is a better place to file this 'bug', please let me know! thanks fo...

Netbios over more then one protocol
Hi, i'm reading: samba-3.0.20a/docs/htmldocs/Samba3-HOWTO/NetworkBrowsing.html#id2564441 ... The election process is /fought out, so to speak/ over every NetBIOS network interface. In the case of a Windows 9x/Me machine that has both TCP/IP and IPX installed and has NetBIOS enabled over both protocols, the election will be decided over both protocols. As often happens, if the Windows 9x/Me machine is the only one with bo...

wine and catia OpenGL issues
...he install of the program to start off in wine. I have tried 0.9.27, heard about an opengl issue and went to 0.9.29. Thinking it might be an issue with my lack of understanding of the operation of wine I installed AutoCAD14 and Homeworld2 to know if it was working correctly and had no problems. I fought with the installer for a couple days and decided to shortcut and dropped a spare hard drive into my machine with Win2K and installed catia on it. The install worked there and the program worked fine. I booted back to my linux (Fedora Core 5) and copied all the installed files into my file system (W...

Creating a CentOS Print Server for Windows Clients
A while ago I looked into this and was told not to bother as it was a hack at best. Anyone shed any reliable info on creating a print server for windows nt -> vista clients both x86 and x46 for a few Canon and HP IP Printers. Would this be reliable, are there any caveats or issues to be aware of? Thanks! jlc

Create SOAP Webservice with Rails 3
Hello, I''m just getting started with Rails, and for my first project I want to create a Rails app that is nothing more that a SOAP web service. From what I have been able to figure out it looks like with Rails 2 there was a web services framework of some sort. I have been struggling to find anything on Rails 3. Oh yea, yes it has to be SOAP :-) , we have SOAP clients and apps already and
