Project "Muncher" the next step in wine
Ok, It's a lame name but it was the best I could come up with after
spinning around in a desk chair for a few minutes. Here is the general
idea behind it.
Once, in an interview, Steve Balmber, the CEO of Microsoft threw some
standard MS FUD out about Linux being a poor choice becaue each distro
tends to "mutate" linux and has no solid direction
I thought "Wouldn't

Samba PDC + OpenLDAP + Samba BDC
Hello everyone,
the time for me to use a OpenLDAP server is getting closer ( :( yikes..I'm
still scared sorta) ,
I currently have a Samba PDC with tdbsam with 50 users goes fine, our

The questions :

Debian bug #111744 - SSH 2.9p2-5 port-forwarded connection may fail to close cleanly
...ssy happens with the rdesktop
# connect, and it causes ssh to become confused?
The command he's running is:
$ slogin -2 -X -C -lrichardp -L 3389:172.20.1.92:3389 ssh.optimation.co.nz
Now, usually one would expect a message like the following if the ssh
couldn't end because it was still forewarding connections:
% Waiting for forwarded connections to terminate...
% The following connections are open:
% #0 direct-tcpip: listening port 54321 for xantha port 9, connect
% from 127.0.0.1 port 2337 (t4 r1 i1/0 o16/0)
However in this case that didn't happen.
We are fairly sure that there i...

NoobyQ: how to work with a table of static lookup data??
Hello out there!
Nooby question: What''s the "Rails" way to work with tables of relatively
static lookup data?
Objectively (I''m thinking); I don''t want to hit the DB each time, so for
each lookup table, initialize a globally available hash with lable/value
pairs...
Am I on the right track?
How would you do this kind of thing in Rails?
Thanks!

Shorewall 2.3.2
This will be the final 2.3 release. It makes available multiple-ISP
support. There is one external change to the version that has been in
CVS for the last couple of days -- the ''default'' provider option has
been named ''balance'' to better describe what the option does (load
balancing).

samba-upgradedns --dns-backend=BIND9_DLZ fix hard links / A Record / PTR Record left
Hi,
i have the following problem.
I use the remote administration tools. I added a forward lookupzone A Record and would automtically add the suitable PTR Record.
A Record was added but i miss the PTR Record. I have a foreward and reverse lookup zone. I use 4.1.6 and use now 4.1.11. Before it worked.
I read at the wiki out that the sam.ldb.d and dns/sam.ldb.d are hard links. I checked that

early media (video)
Hi All,
I've been looking for information on how to use asterisk and early media to
allow for a video-preview of the caller at the callee's phone for days...
but I haven't been too successful :(
I found that there seems to be a company "2N Helios IP" which claims
(youtube-video) that "their" SIP server is able to provide early video
(using a Grandstream 3157v2

IAXY DNS possibilities??
...:bohmanj@adcnoc.com]

Subject: [Asterisk-Users] IAXY DNS possibilities??
Is there any way to hard code an ip in the IAXY then re-direct that ip to a
dynamic ip via dns..
Some sort of ip forewarding...??
This is more of a networking question really but I'm sure there are a lot of
DNS guru's out there that might be able to come up with something..
Thanks in advance..

Question about securelevel
I've read about securelevel in the mailing list archive, and found some
pitfalls (and seems to me to be discarded soon).
But According to me, the following configuration should offer a good
security:
- mount root fs read only at boot;
- set securelevel to 3;
- do not permit to unmount/remount roots fs read-write (now it is possible
by means of "mount -uw /");
- the only way to make

More Tests for 2.4.0-RC2 - strange behaviour
Hi all,
I was trying to test ROUTE specific code with a multi-isp serviced box.
There is a bug somewhere, but I''m not able to understand what the real
problem is:
when I issue a "shorewall show capabilities" I get:
Loading /usr/share/shorewall/functions...
Processing /etc/shorewall/params ...
Processing /etc/shorewall/shorewall.conf...
Loading Modules...
Shorewall has
