strange lustre errors
Hi, On a few of the hpc cluster nodes, i am seeing a new lustre error that is pasted below. The volumes are working fine and there is nothing on the oss and mds to report. LustreError: 5080:0:(import.c:607:ptlrpc_connect_interpret()) data3-OST0000_UUID at 192.168.2.98@tcp changed handle from 0xfe51139158c64fae to 0xfe511392a35878b3; copying, but this may foreshadow disaster

Enhancement to termplot()
I'd like to make the following change to termplot(): Add panel=points as an extra parameter. Replace if (partial.resid) points(xx, pres[, i], cex = cex, pch = pch, col = col.res, ...) by if (partial.resid) panel(xx, pres[, i], cex = cex, pch = pch, col = col.res, ...) Also, I think, add col.smooth, span and iter as named parameters; see below.

Slow printing / print properties with CUPS and Samba sort-of-solved
...problems that I've been having for quite a while. This weekend I am migrating an old server to new hardware and a new base OS, but the version of Samba and CUPS remain the same. Because of this I moved all the config files and the contents of /var/cache/samba from the old server to the new. (Foreshadowing: this was a mistake, but not a big one.) Since the new server would be a complete replacement of the old no changes were necessary. The problems I had been having boil down to this: If my users tried to go to the printer properties or tried to select "file->print" from any print me...

polite help request: Building Wine on Ubuntu / Kubuntu 6.06 (Dapper Drake)
Hello Karsten, Please can you help clarify a couple of points in your how-to guide? We are trying to install Wine on a 64-bit (dual core) Celeron system. The general problem we are having is that it is not clear at what point to perform the "configure" or "make" commands. We have followed your instructions very closely, but some steps are unclear: 1) "configure will

identical function names from 2 packages
Hi, If I load 2 packages that have a function with the same name, how do I tell R to run one or the other? (Instead of having R automatically use the first- or last-loaded one, whichever it is. (Which is it, by the way.)) Cheers! Nick -- ==================================================== Nicholas J. Matzke Ph.D. Candidate, Graduate Student Researcher Huelsenbeck Lab Center for

Truncating SHA2 hashes vs shortening a MAC for ZFS Crypto
For the encryption functionality in the ZFS filesystem we use AES in CCM or GCM mode at the block level to provide confidentiality and authentication. There is also a SHA256 checksum per block (of the ciphertext) that forms a Merkle tree of all the blocks in the pool. Note that I have to store the full IV in the block. A block here is a ZFS block which is any power of two from 512 bytes to
