Foip solution
Hi all,
I've cross-posted this to the -users and -biz groups. Hope that's OK.
I have a customer who REALLY needs to be able to send/receive faxes reliably.
I could probably get hylafax configured, but I'm not sure how reliable it is.
If it is considered reliable, would someone let me know?
Otherwise, is there a product/service they can buy that will allow them to fax

Re: [Asterisk-biz] SS7 and Asterisk solution
When are 'we' going to have this solution Steve? :) You keep talking
about it, and we keep asking when it's going to come about.
I know myself, SS7 will be a make or break for our continued use of
Asterisk. Even if we had some price indications would be good, and/or a
timeframe?
Don't want to seem pushy, but it's been on the cards for quite some time
now.

Asterisk Faxing Support
...s which could cause CDRs not to reflect the
true details of the call.
Asterisk/Digium also has no interest in any further interest in
expanding T.38 or faxing support in Asterisk.
Steve Underwood and the other fine persons that have helped to develop
the software DSPs and other stuff required for FoIP support also have
no interest in writing any further faxing support for Asterisk (RxFax,
TxFax + the newest span_dsp wont even compile, much less work under
Asterisk any more) probably because they know it will never be
included into the Asterisk code.

Fax with T.38
Hi all,
I install the last version of Asterisk and I tried to send faxes, but
nothing works.
Here is my configuration:
Analog Fax <----> IP <----> Asterisk <----> IP <----> Patton M-ATA
<----> Analog Fax 2
I tried Analog Fax 2 -> Analog Fax but nothing works!!
In the Patton configuration I put G711 and no silence suppression.
In asterisk I have

T.38 "client" for Linux?
I am looking for a simple way to send occasional faxes via the FXO
port on my SPA3102 -- without having to connect a fax modem to an
ATA. In an ideal world, this would be some sort of "softfax" that
runs on my Linux desktop and talks (via Asterisk) to the SPA3102 with
T.38.
This is one of those things that I thought would be relatively
straightforward, but a couple of hours of Googling

Clarification - FAX on local network
Ok, ok, I know there has been plenty of discussion on asterisk and fax -
from this I understand:
1) First and foremost, use g.711 ulaw
2) Packet loss, etc...makes faxing over the internet unreliable
My need is for a fax to come in on a X100P and be forwarded to a fax
machine on the local lan. I don't currently have any fxs as I'm using
all sip phones at this point. I see the

Distributed FAX - How to best complement asterisk ?
...P.
Side note:
- I've read every recent mail on this mailing list regarding
the subject
- I've browsed the wiki to its fullest extent
- I've googled a lot
- I've read Steve Underwood's excelent summary on the
subject (check it out at http://www.soft-switch.org/foip.html)
Facts:
a) FAX over VoIP will not work, so installing ATAs on
the remote locations and bridging them with the PSTN
FAXes is out of the plan.
b) T.38 is the answer to FoIP
c) asterisk 1.2 does not support T.38
d) asterisk 1.4 only does T.38 passthrough, not good enoug...

T.38 fax summary
Steve Underwood,
Would you mind summarizing where/how T.38 functions, and maybe how it
compares to the analog fax environment for the asterisk-users arhives?
Seems to be some misunderstanding, and a lot of interest in handling
faxes in various forms via asterisk. If some these approaches were
summarized in one posting, a lot of us could reference it to remind us
of limitations, current state,

T38 negotiation, the last step !
Hi, I've managed to get HYLAFAX---->T38MODEM----->ASTERISK---->CISCOAS5400
working, but when they are negotiating asterisk drops a message telling
"Unknown RTP codec 96 received from gateway" Do somebody know how to fix it
?
Thank you !

Development news :: T38 passthrough support
...oIP is like russian
roulette. On a local LAN,
it might work if you pick a clear channel codec like G.711. Steve
Underwood, member of
the Asterisk developer team, has writen a good article about the
problems involved and
the solutions for it on his web site, the URL is http://soft-
switch.org/foip.html
T.38 is an ITU standard for fax over VoIP. To simplify, the idea is
to decode the fax audio
stream at the ingress point, convert it to a data stream that is not
sensitive towards jitter
or delays and encode it into audio again if needed at the other end
of the call - if you
can't co...

Asterisk & BRI in the USA - Episode 2 "The Phantom Sales Rep"
...toll free number. I am looking into IAX.CC (SixTel). I
wanted to know peoples take on this company. Hard price to beat, but I
wonder what the network is like. Has anyone here had much experience
with them? Can anyone make a recommendation for a quality ITSP that has
a/c 808 DiD's? Is FoIP possible with any of these guys?
As always your (non)professional opinion matters.

Connect many fax lines?
We have an application for Asterisk that will require connecting 144 fax
ports into the system. Faxes will route externally over a PRI. The 144
ports are for local fax machines within the building. Not all will be
faxing simultaneously. We just need to be able to provide ports in the
building to plug in lots of fax machines.
The plan is to run an Asterisk server for about 100 phones and these

Mail-2-Fax and Fax-2-Mail solution for Asterisk with T38
Hi,
I am looking for an Mail-2-Fax and in a second step Fax-2-Mail-solution
that works via T38 with Asterisk, currently still version 1.4 but it
also should work with 1.6.
For Mail-2-Fax I am thinking that you either have to install a special
printer-driver on your Windows-PC (Mac and Linux would be good too),
where you can print your fax too and where you have to enter the
destination number.
