MultiMarkdown Announcements
I know things have been quiet lately, but I wanted to announce a couple of MultiMarkdown related happenings: 1. I am in the process of creating a new website, and MultiMarkdown is one of the first things to be moved. The new address is <http:// fletcherpenney.net>. A new look, a new URL, some new technology, and some new content. I have not moved much from the old site yet, but it's coming. As always, I welcome ideas for how to make it better. 2. At the new site, you can download the latest versions of MultiMarkdown and the TextMate bun...

Possible bug in handling of HTML comments
...ing HTML comments as a means to pass text that should be ignored by MultiMarkdown (e.g. to allow raw LaTeX, etc). But some of the comments *are* being processed, which screws them up. Thanks for any insight, and ideas on how to fix this! Fletcher Penney -- Fletcher T. Penney fletcher at fletcherpenney.net Without question, the greatest invention in the history of mankind is beer. Searchable archives of Markdown discussion list still available?
...#39;t have much luck. IIRC, the list never had a searchable web interface, but older posts were available on a Google search. This seems not to be the case any more. Can anyone recommend a good way to search the archives of this list? Thanks! Fletcher -- Fletcher T. MultiMarkdown 2.0.b5 Released
I have released version 2.0.b5 of MultiMarkdown today. As always, it can be downloaded from: <http://files.fletcherpenney.net/MultiMarkdown.zip> Some of the changes include: * spaces at end of xslt filenames won't cause failure * use `\url{}` for "non-referenced" url's in LaTeX to allow linebreaks (though they still don't always break correctly --- this is a problem with `hyperref`...

Mac markdown editor that saves as .txt
Hi all, I'm a newer user of markdown & MultiMarkdown, and I'm looking for the perfect setup of software for my Mac and my Android phone. I'd like to have my drafts editable from both. What I want is an attractive Mac app for writing (primarily blog posts and emails) that saves its files as .txt . Most of them save as .md or .markdown instead, and since there doesn't seem to

Trouble with parentheses in Markdown hyperlinks
How can we improve URL detection in Markdown? I posted a question on Stack Overflow and happened to click a URL in my post. To my surprise, it wasn't functional, and it took three different, nonintuitive manipulations before I achieved a functional URL. Stack Overflow says "not my problem", so I'm deferring to Markdown itself. Here's a

Babelmark
I'm currently attempting to write a spec for parsing Markdown Extra, and since one goal is to minimize the differences in output between implementations, I've made a tool allowing me to compare who does what for any given input. I hope this can also facilitate future discussions about the syntax. So here's Babelmark, a testbed for various Markdown implementations were you

attribute blocks for definition lists
Hello, As I am using markdown to write documentation, I am often tempted to make links to terms in definition lists. Since this is not possible for now (at least in php markdown extra), I was wondering if this could be a common addition in major implementation supporting definition lists. the syntax would be term {#id} : definition This syntax tries to follows current convention and

anchor names from headers (Setext and atx)?
It would be useful if defining headers (either Setext and atx style), if Markdown would also generate corresponding anchors: ## This is an H2 ## would create: <a name="This is an H2"/> <h2>This is an H2</h2> Or something like that. Or is that available some different way? Thanks, Jeremy C. Reed

Math equations, and extensions in general
...o use latex notation with HTML-style tags, like `<math>\{ x \mid x^2 \in S \}</ math>`. No way to indent text?
How could one indent (not quote) a block of text? This is commonly done in Wikipedia with one or more colons at the beginning of the line, and is very handy for threaded discussions. Metadata syntax (was Universal syntax for Markdown)
...n document may contain metadata in a human readable form that the parser converts to a machine readable form of metadata automatically. A casual reader will understand the content directly and without distraction. Bowerbird will love this. > From: "Fletcher T. Penney" <fletcher at fletcherpenney.net> > You mention the English-centric nature of MMD metadata. This is certainly true, but no more so than HTML itself. One could certainly localize MMD to use any language you like (the beauty of open source), but to match your proposal in multiple languages would be quite complicated. &g...

toast, history, sayonara
ok, while i was in the process of writing that last post, fletcher and john weighed in themselves. that's good. i can say some things that they can't, though, so i will. fletcher told you how multimarkdown is booming, and it was an impressive list. what you might not realize is, he _undersold_ it. it is even bigger than he described, and it's gonna _double_ in size in the next
