Can I Install a scanner in wine
...lo everyone
I'm am a new convert to Linux using Mint 12, I am trying to make a complete break from windows, I have just installed Wine in order to use a couple of programs i can't find Linux alternatives for and was wondering if it possible to install a scanner in Wine, I have a Xerox 4800 flatbed scanner which has no Linux driver available and is the only piece of hardware i can't get to run in Linux, I have the Windows installation disk which includes scanning software, any help or advice would be much appreciated.
Many Thanks

Canon PIXMA mg5420 or HP Photo Smart 7520
...hear from someone who has actually gotten all of this working on
Linux (either debian or centos) and which version of which distro is needed.
The Canon PIXMA mg5420 doesn't have a fax or a sheet feeder for its
scanner, but I'm guessing it's even dodgier to get just its single-sheet
flatbed scanner and its printer working with Linux. So has anyone had
success with that?
I've also read horror stories about the how often new ink cartridges are
required, that basically you pay for the printer a second and third time
buying cartridges (not to mention how often a print job is inte...

I read the various docs on sane-project.org, especially this document:
http://penguin-breeder.org/sane/saned/
My first problem, and apparently one big difference between CentOS and
Slackware, is that there is no entry for the scanner in /dev. Now what
does the above output of scanimage -...

Wireless Printing
My home network doesn't have any wireless access points (to slow) and
I was iSCSI booting my wkst for a while:) Now I need to setup a printer
so I was going to get an HP Photosmart C4580.
The HPLIP page shows no network support:( I _was_ going to use a USB
wireless nic I have and setup an ad-hoc to print to this thing.
Anyone know anything that might make this work?
Thanks!

scanner only works in su mode
Apparently I hadn't done any scanning since my move to centos.
hp-scan works for root, but not for me as me.
When I try to use xsane, it tells me no device found.
When I try to use hp-scan as myself it tells me:

Higher quality video - supporting greater than 8 bit color depth
...to adjust its gamma level or
affect its historgam in other ways.
While most digital video acquisition methods available today (save for
film-to-video rank transfers) still yield the low bit rate file, the evolution
clearly must be towards the greater fidelity, similar to what happened in
film/flatbed scanners (that are now 16bit/channel color depth) and digital cameras
(most prosumer models 12bit/color depoth).
Even if source AND finished product are 8 bit/channel, there's still a huge
benefit in having the processing be in the higher bit depth domain, forcleaner
support of complex filt...
