OES Samba question
We are currently running Open Enterprise Server from Novell and have been migrating to Samba. We have ran into an issue where occasionally a user will click on a directory and it will just sit there forever with an hour glass or flashlight. If you go to the same directory through a command prompt and do a dir on the directory it goes into a continuous loop and reads the contents of the directory over and over again. We are running samba-3.0.20b-3.14 and I was curious if anyone else had seen this problem. Thanks, Jordan

Win {vista, 7} + Offline folders + samba + clamfs resulting in .tmp files.
...fs share. I have tried this article http://www.pcbg.co.za/threads/13075-Windows-7-Sync-Center-s-offline-file-sync-SAMBA, but no luck. I have also tried adding tmp to clamfs's whitelist, no change though. I can try getting some logs, but what verbosity level? Let me know where I can shine my flashlight and give you more details. Regards Ian

Stubbing yielding methods
I''ve just been tying my brain in knots looking at bug #8687 ( http://rubyforge.org/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=8687&group_id=1917&atid=7477 ). I''ve been (1) trying to work out whether there is anything logically wrong with Mocha''s existing behaviour and (2) whether Mocha should support the requested functionality. It all centres around the use of the

browsing on samba shares is slow
...Samba 2.2.7 on a RedHat9 system installed as a PDC. Domain logons work fine, I see the linux system in the network neighborhood, but the browsing of tha samba shares is very slow, especially on stepping up in the directory tree. Usually when reaching back to the first level of shares, the flashlight/folder icon appears in windows explorer, and in the top bar of the window it sais Samba Server (not responding). After a few seconds everything turns back to normal. The browsing of other shares (Win XP, Win 2000) in the same network is ok, without timeout. Below I put a copy...

Windows XP client over IPSEC VPN -- No browsing, limited file access.
...ping "\\CAESAR" in the location bar) only works with very small directories and files. A folder with only a few files in it, or a file of only a few bytes, works fine. Browsing to large folders (which can actually mean as few as 30 files), Windows Explorer pauses, with an hourglass or flashlight, and eventually presents the message (for the share "extra"): "\\caesar\extra is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The specified network name is no longe...

[Ubuntu 11.10] Unable to run (java?) games
Hello everyone Wine is great. I've managed to (through PlayOnLinux) get Steam installed and I'm able to play a load of my games in the comfort of Ubuntu. Currently I have all my Half Life and Half Life 2 mods working for the most part. My issue is: Some games come with a browser or launcher that checks if the game is up to date. All of these launchers tend to contain some Java, Flash

Machine all of a suddens freezes. Any suggestions?
This is a A8N32-SLI Deluxe motherboard with a AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core 4400+ Processor. It freezes and cannot be accessed from the network. Keyboard/mouse/display, everything just stuck. It had an uptime of 17 days after I re-connected all cables and boards after a similar crash. My feeling is, this must be a hardware related problem. I inspected the logs under /var/log, but nothing.

Power-outage
I have a CentOS-5.6 remote server in a house in Italy, where there are occasional thunder-storms. There was one yesterday, when the electricity went off 3 times, for a second or so on each occasion. My server, an HP MicroServer, came back (re-booted) on 2 of the 3 occasions, but not on the third. I assume that the problem arises because the machine does not close down properly. (Although it is

Device recommendation Salicru
...not quite > electricity-tech to make some hackish testing (and dangerous). It's your choice but unless you short circuit the terminals which you should not do with ANY battery, there is no danger. It's as dangerous as working on the electrical system of a car or with a battery for a flashlight. True, it's 12V vs 1.5V but still not dangerous. All you have to do is to disconnect the battery ( which you know how to do, since you replaced it once ), connect a lamp with a 12V light bulb to the terminals and use a clock to monitor how fast does the battery discharge. > > (David...

If you want to install the driver on your local computer, click Ok." Then I get the flashlight dialog box with the title "Connecting to myprinter on houseserv" Lastly I get a box with "The file '*.INF' on (Unknown) is needed" I'm not sure why it says (Unknown) here but It's a home network that mostly uses /etc/hosts files but I don't think windows ha...

SUMMARY: Samba 2.0 and passwords
I would like to see those of us who send an inquiry to this list also send a summary of what fixed the problem so that someone in the future could find the answer. I searched archives for an answer and only found questions. Since a lot of folks reply ot individuals then even the replies don't end up in the archives and so it would be nice if summaries were sent to the list. Anyway, enough

Support for layers and alpha channel?
...ec if she would be on a layer that simply jumps behind the background layer. Perhaps even more so if the motion in that layer can be frozen in time and continue when it is brought back to the front. Also think about rougher videos where the drumsolo makes two different videos interweave like a flashlight, demanding complete screen redraws during the entire scene. Would it not be more efficient if you have two video streams where the player is instructed to franticly hustle them back to front with a simple rearrangement of the layer stack? Maybe, but definitely yes if the background video layer...

BUG: samba-3.0.14a & samba-3.0.20pre2 endless loop AIX 5.3 (jfs2) & Win98
...(domain). The shares that I am having problems with are on IBM's "jfs2" filesystem. The XP boxes are working perfectly. The Windows 98 boxes work to read and save files. HOWEVER... if one "Explores" into one of the folders, Samba goes into an endless loop. The little flashlight in Windows 98 Explorer just keeps waving back and forth. The behavior can be duplicated by going into a DOS prompt and doing a "DIR" on the shared directory. It is more obvious what is happening, because the screen updates continuously. It just scrolls forever. It gets to the end...
