Problem booting from CF/SD cards and USB Flashdrives using syslinux
I've run into a rather odd problem. It seems that I can format and make
bootable CF/SD cards and USB Flashdrives under Windows 98SE and MS-DOS
6.22 that will boot to a A: prompt on my system.
But when I try making the same CF/SD cards and USB Flashdrives bootable
under linux using syslinux I get nothing, not even a error message. It's
like the syslinux bootloader doesn't even exist on the CF/SD ca...

Syslinux freezes my MP3 player/flashdrive, normal dos boot does not.
I recently got a cheap PenDrive iVO which I'll be the first to admit
is anything but perfect, but, a pretty decent player considering it's
cost is that of the other players with half the memory. One of the
things I was looking forward to was having a great bootable flashdrive
with my favorite linux rescue image and a few other diagnostic/repair
things. Unfortunately, since I tried to put

Trying to figure out why my Cruzer Micro 512"MB" won't boot.
...one flashdrive and just sell the old drives or
something. Unfortunately, it just doesn't seem to want to boot. I
used the trick highlighted in the readme file on the fake USB-ZIP
method because my bios is among those which can't boot a USB-HDD.
This method has worked on my previous 256MB flashdrives and my bios,
so I had good reason to believe it should have worked on this one. I
get no errors and windows and linux both work flawlessly with it, so
the only conclusions I can draw is that either the bios absolutely
does not recognize it as a valid boot device so skips it completely
(which might...

8.2.2004 Quick recovery and fix for unbootable machines
This is a quick recovery and fix for the machines rendered unbootable
after the grub2/shim yum update.
It is written for CentOS 8.2.2004 but similar should work for any CentOS
8 or 7 as long as you get the correct shim file,
that is, the one from the latest installation media.
I am running on an x86_64 architecture (see uname -i). Please use the
correct shim file for your architecture

How to boot linux kernel from Syslinux 6 with efi
Hello,
I am testing Syslinux-6.01 booting with efi64 from usb flashdrive.
Using the config listed below, the kernel and initrd are loaded,
but hang right after with no error messages.
The flashdrive is partitioned with two partitions; the first is efi
system partition marked 0xef00 in gdisk (gpt-fdisk) and is formated
fat32; the second partition is formated ext2 but remains empty at this

Fwd: 8.2.2004 Quick recovery and fix for unbootable machines with rescue disk
Hello all--
These instructions are somewhat OK but my messed up box is the only one
I've got basically to help with this problem.
Where can we find "correction" instructions using a "rescue" CD or flash
drive? I understand RedHat provided detailed instructions to supported
customers.
Thanks.

Bootable ISO with extra data outside the ISO?
Sorry if this is a total noob question... I've searched the archives and
haven't turned up much. Not turning up much on the web in general, either.
I'm working on a project and I'd like to create a Linux bootable ISO disc
with an extra chunk of data **outside** the ISO space. This chunk of data
might be a 10MB tar/zip. The goal would be to boot into Linux in RAM off
the disc

Playing Gamemaker 6 and 7 games on OSX?
I have recently gotten back into making a games with gamemaker. I had a big game that I didn't finish on my old computer running Windows XP. But then my stupid sister dropped my laptop done the stairs. That was about 2 months ago, and I got a new laptop running OSX because my parents hate Windows (while I love it). I was looking through a flashdrive with my stuff from my old laptop on it

Loading syslinux native from a USB HDD
Hi there guys!
I want to set up Puppy-Linux to run off a 2GB USB key-drive in native
mode (I.e. not as a virtual machine, which I'm finding runs too slow on
my system, under XP.)
To test it out, I want to run off a 150GB USB HDD. Now this drive is
NTFS formatted and way bigger than the 1GB file structure limit that I
read about in the Syslinux documentation. There's only one

It's good to that. I've just tried that seven times (three different
flashdrives 'dd' using different USB ports, then created one CD) and the
media test failed each time. I wish those downloads listed cksums/md5sums.

bootloader installation improvements
I have some concerns about the Syslinux boot process, which I'm now
investigating in connection with my work on booting Live-CD images from
USB flashdrives. Some of these are related to what seems to be
inadequate documentation, but I think that there are also aspects of
Syslinux operation which could be fairly easily improved.
quoting from the official documentation:
Since version 5.00, when a SYSLINUX or EXTLINUX installer is used,
