Windows DomU with SSDs
...world of hosting Windows DomUs on our Xen infrastructure. As Windows generally requires a lot more IOPS than Linux does, we are trying to do everything we can to improve performance. While using SSDs would solve the IOPS problem, SSDs suffer from limited write cycles. So, we have the idea of using Flashcache from Facebook to use a single SSD as a cache in write-through mode, along with spindle drives in RAID10. My questions to the community are: 1) What are the general views of using SSDs in a Xen environment? All of our guests are "untrusted". Is this just generally a bad idea? 2) Does a...

anyone using dm-cache?
Hi, Has, or does, anyone use dm-cache - specifically for caching SAN based storage locally? I''m looking for a way to speed up SAN based storage on a CentOS 5.6 + XEN Hypervisor which uses iSCSI mounted SAN storage. dm-cache seems like it do the trick, but I''ve never heard of it before until someone mentioned it in another mailing list. A quick search on google didn''t

MySQL on BTRFS Experiences
...is running a critical MySQL operation on BTRFS that could comment on their experience with it? "critical" to me means a 24x7 operation with 3-4 nines uptime requirement. Also, as BTRFS doesn''t seem to have SSD acceleration features yet, is anyone using BTRFS in combination with flashcache? Anybody who''s come to BTRFS from ZFS would be very helpful too. Thank you in advance. -J -- To unsubscribe from this list: send the line "unsubscribe linux-btrfs" in the body of a message to majordomo@vger.kernel.org More majordomo info at http://vger.kernel.org/majordomo-i...

Performance of Maildir vs sdbox/mdbox
...for our environment. This is a brand new build, with customer mailboxes to be migrated in over the course of 3-4 months. Some details on our new environment: * Approximately 1.6M+ mailboxes once all legacy systems are combined * NetApp FAS6280 storage w/ 120TB usable for mail storage, 1TB of FlashCache in each controller * All mail storage presented via NFS over 10Gbps Ethernet (Jumbo Frames) * Postfix will feed new email to Dovecot via LMTP * Dovecot servers have been split based on their role - Dovecot LDA Servers (running LMTP protocol) - Dovecot POP/IMAP servers (running POP/IMAP pr...
