Windows XP fixmbr from Centos?
I am still dead on my corporate system, and the XP boot CD I brought
won't boot. And so far I have not found anyone here at the IETF meeting
that happens to have one in their bag of tricks...
So I found instructions on doing this in Ubuntu:
http://www.arsgeek.com/2008/01/15/how-to-fix-your-windows-mbr-with-an-ubuntu-livecd/
I have my Centos install CD 1 of 6 that gets me into rescue.

Now you did it Olly
Oh, Boy. I am in trouble now....
I just installed Centos on a USB drive on my corp notebook. To not
TOUCH my corp drive.
I spent time with the drive partitioner to make sure that nothing was
done to the internal hard drive...
Well I missed something and I overwrote the encrypted bootloader on the
hard drive.
Now what? Can I rescue things?
I am leaving for my flight in a couple hours to

kvm/libvirt on CentOS7 w/Windows 10 Pro guest
...ndows 10 as a guest that keeps Windows Updates from nuking the boot process?
I just did an orderly shutdown and windows updated itself <I forgot to disable in time> only to reboot to the diagnostics screen which couldn't repair.
going to command prompt and doing the usual "bootrec /fixmbr, /fixboot and /RebuildBcd" didn't help.
This has happened a few times. I can't believe how fragile Win10pro is while running in a VM.
(and it's happened on a couple machines I've been experimenting with -- both running same OS, but different hardware.)
I just saw the FAQ abo...

create xen image using existing xp .img file
...know that I can use virt-manager to access the xen server and create
an image and what not. I guess my question is can someone help me import
this exiting .img file into my xen server for use. Currently it does not
boot and when I tried booting to recovery console using windows xp disk I
can do a fixmbr, but fixboot does not work cause it says the drive does not
exist. Any help would be great.

Problem booting Microsoft Windows KVM virtual machine

isa-serial,chardev=serial0 -usb -vnc 0.0.0.0:0 -k en-us -vga cirrus
-device virtio-balloon-pci,id=balloon0,bus=pci.0,addr=0x4
I'd also followed the steps described here:
http://www.brandonturner.net/blog/2010/01/convert-windows-to-xen-guest/
to use fixmbr and the operation succeed, but the error on the vm is
still the same.
What should else i check?

Re-doing the MBR
I tried to install CentOS 4.4. This was on a machine where I've got
Windows XP on the first partition (hda1).
CentOS, like most of the distros will automatically install Grub in
the MBR unless you tell it not to. In fact it will wipe the MBR first
pretty early in the install.
Here was my problem. During the install, the second CD had some sort
of read issue. So I had to abort the install

I've installed CentOS 4.4 in a box which previously had dual boot (XP
SP2 and Ubuntu)
I can run CentOS without problem but I can't boot XP SP2. When I try it
