Can't boot with a new install
Hi everyone,
I just finished installing FreeBSD 6 RELEASE on my Toshiba Tecra A4
laptop and the installation was fine, however, when I rebooted the
machine, I don't get the boot loader screen as if the machine can not
see my drive! I tried the reinstalling and ensured that I set the slice
to be bootable but that didn't change anything.
Not sure if this is a common issue with FreeBSD 6 on

Reconstruct disklabel for UFS and GELI volumes
Hi,
Somehow[TM] an installation of 4.11 to ad0s3 managed to wipe out my
existing disklabel for 7.0 on ad0s4. I now need to recover the
disklabel to get my system to boot!
There were three labels
- ad0s4a: UFS, exact size unknown. Is it possible to infer this from
the UFS partition size? I can mount this already, as I simply wrote an
'a' label of maximum size to the disklabel
- ad0s4b:

[cfe-dev] RFC: Modernizing our use of auto

Because the tool would need to apply judgement to when this makes sense. If we can’t write an algorithm in coding standards.html to be prescriptive about when to use auto, then I don’t think we can automate this.

positive semi-definite matrix
I have a covariance matrix that is not positive semi-definite matrix and I
need it to be via some sort of adjustment. Is there any R routine or
package to help me do this?
Thanks, Roger

[LLVMdev] [RFC] C++11: 'virtual' and 'override'
...or this? What's the preferred direction
here? Seems not having 'virtual' is less overall text, but not sure how
others feel.
Related, should we require use of 'override' when methods override a base
class method?
I have clang-tidy checks for both though haven't implemented fixits for
them yet.
Thanks,
~Craig

Aggressive optimization opportunity
...do, we probably want to:
1. Restrict it's application to C (e.g., it should be an error to use with C++, OpenCL, CUDA, and any other languages that Clang supports).
2. When used with C99 or later language standards, the use of this flag generates a warning on each function definition with a fixit hint showing where the restrict keyword should be placed (we can then, optionally of course, use these fixits to automatically upgrade code where possible using our corresponding infrastructure). This warning should have a separate flag, and is disabled by default for pre-C99 standard modes, and en...

Conditional replacement of NA depending on value in the previous column
Dear R-helpers,
I have a dataframe like this:
ID X1 X2 X3 X4 X5 X6
49 1 1 1 0 NA NA
50 1 1 1 1 NA 1
I would like to convert a missing value (NA) that follows a 0 (zero) or
another missing value (NA) into a 0 (zero).
So, the above lines would be converted to:
ID X1 X2 X3 X4 X5 X6
49 1 1 1 0 0 0
50 1 1 1 1 NA 1
I have been struggling with

After an update stable doesn't boot
Hi
I just did a system update and after I've rebooted it doesn't boot up any
more.
All I'm getting is a blank screen with a curser blinking at the top left
corner of the screen.
This system was running 7.0-STABLE
Any ideas as to how I can get it back up?

Aggressive optimization opportunity
Hi,
There are some compilers with a aggressive optimization which restricts
function pointer parameters. Let's say opt restrict_args. When
restrict_args is turned on, compiler will treat all function pointer
parameters as restrict one.
int foo(int * a) + restrict_args opt
equals to:
int foo(int * restrict a)
Here is a complete example:
source code:
extern int num;
int foo(int * a)

Hacked or not appendice
Hi all again,
I must add, there are no log entries after June 9, 2004. "LKM" message first
apeared June 8, 2004, after this day, there is nothing in /var/messages,
/var/security .....
How could I look for suspicious LKM module ? How could I find it, if the
machine is hacked and I can not believe "ls", "find" etc. commands ?

[LLVMdev] Spell Correction Efficiency
Hello Doug,
*putting llvmdev in copy since they are concerned too*
I've finally got around to finish a working implementation of the typical
Levenshtein Distance with the diagonal optimization.
I've tested it against the original llvm implementation and checked it on a
set of ~18k by randomly generating a variation of each word and checking
that both implementations would return the

[LLVMdev] Potential Outage Tonight
Dear All,
When it rains, it pours.
I just got an emergency email that a chilled water feed to the Computer
Science department stopped working, causing the temperature in some of
the machine rooms to get over 100 degrees F. Machines in those rooms
have been turned off to prevent damage.
It looks like llvm.org has been affected, but the mailing lists are
still working. However, temperatures
