Without enabling a userdb entry, dovecot claims not to be able to find out the uid, gid and home of the user, although checkpassword replies these values. Setting static values with "userdb = static uid=$fixed_mail_uid gid=$fixed_mail_gid home=/maildata/%d/%n" results in being every login successful, no matter if the checkpassword authentication is ok, or not.
