Vorbis overview
I intend to finish my Vorbis document on Monday so I will leave it over the weekend to see if there are any more modifications suggested. Although the document will be internal I will put a copy of the final version at the same address - I know firsthand how annoying it is to find loads of dead links when trying to find background info on Vorbis (I know google has probably already got a link to my previous posts). Thanks for the help. Rich. http://www.geocities.com/gatewaystation/vorbis/vorbis.htm --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xi...

If Trying to Recover a Damaged Partition: kbs-CentOS-Extras Has a Tool
...ll do some of that, as I'm reconfig bunch of stuff all the time and have some old small disks (and systems to match that I can resurrect... Windows95 from Genuine floppies anybody?) and the interest. I'll add to this thread as things are discovered. Anyone who has done this already, or has firsthand experience, can allow me to continue my on-going learning of new stuff by reporting on this package so I don't invest the time to evaluate this properly. This is just a bunch of searchable words, feel free to augment as appropriate in your POV. MBR, master, boot, recover, restore, lost, damag...

Kind of off-topic: VoIP services and multiplecallers
...; > If five people in the office all need to use their phones at the same > time, would I need five VoIP lines, or would I only need one > VoIP line? > Am I over-thinking this? No, you're not over-thinking at all. The answer is that it depends on the provider. The two that I have firsthand experience with are Voicepulse Connect and Broadvoice. VP Connect will allow at least four simultaneous inbound or outbound calls. Since they bill per minute on all outbound calls, the rate is the same no matter how many calls are active. I've heard that they've bumped up the limit to mor...

Some Vista Info reguarding Profiles
...t;Application Data" directory (which now is "Roaming") since the bulk of the profile size is that directory. The roaming directory now includes folders that should not be redirected (such as Cookies which causes an error on logout). I may setup a Win2k3 server just so I can witness firsthand how to manage Folder Redirection with Vista. One thing to definitely note: If you want a "Network Default Profile" for Vista, copy a "Vista Profile" into the netlogon Directory and name it "Default User.V2" - Vista should use that profile instead of the local Default...

How do I know this? From a hacked Linux server which was brute-forced and conscripted into being a slow bruteforcer node back in 2009 or so. The particular payload that was dro...

passwords and NIS+
Hello, I'm new to samba. Trying to get it running on Solaris on Intel using NIS+. I configured it with the --with-nisplus --with-nisplus-home and --with-automount. I don't seem to be able to get authentication to work. I've created the smbpasswd file from my nis+ tables, set the perms per the docs (encryption.txt to name one) and when I try to run smbpasswd to set a password for

Dynamically generating 10k pages per second
Hi, Anyone got an idea of how many web and database servers I''d need to push out 10,000 dynamic pages per second? Fairly simple pages and database queries. I''d appreciate recommendations for hardware. The clients for this project are anticipating large amounts of burst traffic. Joe

Samba on Linux with no ACL's is making things tough
Please for give me if this gets a bit long. I am presently in the process of moving my company's file server from Windows NT 4.0 over to Linux with SAMBA and the lack of ACL support in the ext2 filesystem is making things very difficult to design. To clarify I am NOT writing about Samba's support for NT ACL's on NTFS. I am writing to possibly get some tips for getting around the lack

LLVM Releases: Upstream vs. Downstream / Distros
FWIW, for our ARM Compiler product, we follow top-of-trunk, not the releases. Next to picking up new functionality quicker, it also allows us to detect regressions in LLVM against our in-house testing quickly, not 6 months later. We find that when we find a regression within 24 to 48 hours of the commit introducing it, it's much cheaper to get it fixed. In my opinion, it would be better
