Hi everyone, I'm back working on Samba subjects and rather than writing stupidities, I decided to come and use your knowledge : ) nmbd: in modern configurations running nmbd is not necessary and could perhaps even be seen as security issue: it seems to allow NetBIOS authentication which is not secure. Is that true or not? winbindd: is responsible to grab information from AD to produce

Fileserver upgraded from 4.1.17 to 4.2 dosen't authenticate users
...ding to that isn't it possible for you to add a new DC into your NT4 domain which runs Samba4? As it is a DC in addition to others DC (those running Samba3) your domain should continue to work as it did for years. You would just get another DC running more recent Samba. I expect that Samba4 as filesrv is able to communicate correctly with Samba4 as NT4 DC. If my suppositions are not wrong, this would solve your strange RPC issue and also give a way to update your NT4 DC which seems an important thing according to that link which seems to show that samba3 is not supported any more. https://wiki....

Help: TS login authenticating using Machine name of TS instead of user.
...exec script that is run each time access to a share is requested. Its sole purpose is to create the home and profile folders for people when logging in the first time from /etc/skel. For instance if user toms logs in locally to a Win2K3 machine (name termsrv). \\samba\profiles points to /mnt/filesrv/homes/%U/profile/%a This works great. I also setup a profiles.V2 which points to the same place and the %a takes care of the architecture difference if logging in to a Vista/Win2008/7 machine. The script create the /mnt/file/homes/toms just fine on first logon. Here is where it gets weird, whe...
