windows desktop redirection -> samba has problems
...the desktop and my documents will, in effect,
roam to other comuters.
heres our problem:
a user, on a windows platform, creates a document in word, or any other
windows app, and saves it to the desktop (i.e., the redirected desktop,
which is actually the home directory of that user on the network filesever
running samba). the file is saved and you can see it on the unix side, but
the new file will not show up on the actual windows desktop unless the
user logs-out/logs-in, or the user craetes another file, and then removes
it. a right-click/refresh of the desktop does not work.
this is not good, be...

Hi Rowland,

Yes I'm using sssd and I didn't posted idmap config lines to keep it
brief, here it is:
[global]
netbios name = FILESEVER
workgroup = WORKGROUP
security = ads
realm = MY.DOMAIN
preferred master = no
domain master = no
local master = no
disable netbios = Yes
server signing = auto
kerberos method = secrets and keytab
min domain uid = 500

drive mapping
Hi !
We are running Digital Unix 4.0d with C2 security on our server with Samba
1.9. I have noticed that on some Windows NT workstations, I'm able to map a
drive to the root account of our server, enter the wrong password, and still
gain access. If anybody has any suggestions, I'd appreciate the help.
Thanks,
Lynn

Why are you using sssd and Samba ?
Presumably winbind is also running ?
You do not need both and as you need winbind and smbd for file sharing
on a Unix domain member, I suggest you turn off and remove sssd.

Moving homes from PDC server to large fileserver
...the fileserver as a domain member.
I can link directly to it using map network drive in
windows. But when I log into the windows clients, the
PDC still serves the homes from itself(having them
automounted). My understanding was that these options
would tell the client to do a smb connect to the
filesever for the home directories.
Here is the smb.conf of the PDC:
[global]
workgroup = CBI
netbios name = PDC
map to guest = Bad User
encrypt passwords = yes
passdb backend = ldapsam:ldap://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
log level = 2
syslog = 0
time server = Yes
deadtime = 10
socket options = TCP_NODELAY...

File paths must be fully qualified
I was using Puppet 0.24.8 and now upgrade the puppet server and client
both to 0.25.4 (on 1 machine i.e. server and client), but i am facing
some problems. While testing, some of the configs which were/are running
fine on older version generates error here;
for instance,
i have defined the FileSource path in ''/etc/puppet/fileserver.conf''
[myFileSrc]
