RE: Samba and ADS authentication - can't change filepermissions
Answering my own question again, after several days of searching I've
again found the solution within minutes of posting a question here.
The answer to the NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE is that you need to create the
/etc/krb5/krb5.keytab file:
http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5216293&messageID=9877661
And the windows permission setting problem appears to be due to a lack

Samba + ADS - Filepermissions home directories
I configured winbind, samba and pam.d to authenticate via our Windows Active
Directory Server.
Everything works fine, I can log on to the system using my Windows Account
credentials, I am also able to access the samba home share, but I have no
write permissions there.
What I don't get is: When I give read-write-access to everybody (chmod 777
/home/%USER%), I am able to create and delete

ssh + permissions
Hello,
If I sync a filesystem using ssh to an remote server, all
filepermissions on the remote site are gone.
Is there a chance to preserve the permissions using ssh ?
Thanks C. Zimmermann

R search applet initialization
R 1.5.1 is due to come out ... and I've just noticed that the R help.start
page search applet doesn't work on my Mandrake 8.2 system even though I've
upgraded mozilla to version 1.0 and I have a perfectly working java (all
right, I'm using 1.4.0 now, but with mozilla 0.98 and java 1.3.1 it still
didn't work). I had thought the problem due to a too-old mozilla version,
but it

Maildir permissions on creation?
The main reason is that I don't want to provide backup user with unnecessary write permissions within maildirs and mail user within backup logs dir. I was talking about mail_user:mail_group 0750 on dirs and 0640 on files. (Or, possibly, mail_user:backup_group 2750 and 2640.)

Temporary Profiles
...if I enable or disable Roaming
Profiles, all I get is a temporary profile.
If i enable Roaming Profiles, than i get a temporary serverside Profile. If
I disable Roaming Profiles, than i get a temporary local Profile.
Can somebody please help me?
With Roaming Profiles I think it is a problem with Filepermissions. Root
get's a full Serverside Profile (not the smb.conf below), but only root.
I just want a local Profile for the users, so it is not so relevant.

big share problem
...os attributes is default depending of your samba4
version.
Don't user any parameters regarding permission, because you use "vfs
objects = acl_xattr" and "inherit permission = yes" so you set alle the
permissions in Windows and not on the commandline
Did you check the linux-filepermissions?
Can you write into the file when you log in to the linux-System?
Do you get any error when doing a "testparm"?
Normally a share looks like this:
[share_one]
path = /data/dir1/
read only = no
browseable = no
vfs objects = acl_xattr
inherit acls = yes
Everything else is handled via Windo...

MySQL ISAM can't start from OCFS2 filesystem
...On this volume there is an OCSF2 filesystem with this two nodes.
Everything is working really fine, files are perfectly mirrored, really
nice.
On one of the two nodes, I want to run MySQL. But...
When I move the MySQL data directory to the OCFS2 filesystem, MySQL is
unable to start. Filepermissions are fine, and when I su to user mysql I
can write to the OCFS2 without problems. MySQL stops with the following
error message:

Maildir permissions on creation?
...ust does not change anything. Probably because I don't use mail_location and variables when I provide path for home. (It's stored as is in a database on mailbox creation.)

Bug#123084: r-base: R documentatio search engine unusable with Mozilla 6 (OK with netscape 4.7x) (PR#1202)
As there is nothing Debian-specific in this bug report (and the .deb of the
JVW is not from Debian either), I am forwarding this to R-bugs. My
recollection from recent discussions on the R mailing list is that currently
/no/ browser other than Netscape supports the Java search engine -- is that
correct or was there some Netscape derivative (galeon?) which does?
Maybe the documentation should be

Permissions
Hi Group,
I set up samba3.0 to work as ADS-Member-Server.
I created a share called /test and chown group to gg_test to it.
Access to share works without any problems. I also can add files and
directories to this share.
When I now make ln -l, the files I added got the group-permissions "Domain
Users" and not gg_test, as I expected.
Do someone know a solution?
Thanks in advance.
