samba-tool user to edit users..?
Hi,
In our samba3 days, we provided a homedirectory like
\\filehost\username.
Now, with samba4 / ADUC using "\\filehost\username" gives the error:
"the home folder could not be created because: the network name cannot
be found". We have a little root preexec scripts creates the directory
and sets permissions, so ADUC only needs to accept the

adjust DC name after classicupgrade
Hi,
I'm going classicupgrade our samba3 to samba4 next weekend, and suddenly
realised something:
I intent to keep my samba3 PDC machine called 'filehost' as a member
server, to only serve files. However, after classicupgrade my new
(freshly installed) DC1 will of course have the netbios name from my
'old' samba3 machine. ('filehost')
Meaning I end up with two

winbind pam trouble
Hi,
I just upgraded my member (fileserver) server (wheezy) from sernet-4.1
to sernet-4.2, to be ready for tomorrow's badlock outbreak.
Under 4.1 we used sssd, and now 4.2 with winbind. Everything seems to be
running good: wbinfo (-p, -u, -g, -t) all give the expected results,
same for getent (group, passwd, username)
File serving works, life is good. :-)
Last step: allowing ssh access

Samba 3.4 authentication suddenly very slow.
After a scheduled power outage, with all hosts cleanly shut down, I'm having a bad performance issue on my samba server.
This configuration has worked well for over a year, but after the power outage, attempting to access any share takes over a minute.
net ads testjoin is fine,
wbinfo -u and wbinfo -g returns the correct information.
The shares CAN be accessed, once accessed, read and write

Multichannel working at half speed with 2x NICs
Similar to another thread that was posted recently (archive:
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/linux.samba/sRvmCb25U_s) I'm trying
to get multichannel working with a virtual Linux server running version

I have two VirtIO NICs on my

...the power off test. However the upssched-cmd script gave
absolutely no signs of activity. Even it's logger lines don't show up in
journalctl. No any permission error messages - nothing. Only the 2 messages
from upsmon - on battery and then on line power.
Here is the nut-report:

The system doesn't shutdown
...#NUT_REPORT It probably has to be run as
root. This will generate a condensed presentation of your NUT
configuration with passwords removed.
The output is a bit too much for an e-mail so the best way of presenting
the result in file /tmp/NUT.report is to upload it to a free file hoster
such as filehosting.org and post the URL they give you here in this list.
You might want to use a throw-away e-mail address when dealing with
filehosting.org. I use Mailinator.com

That sounds similar to our use case.

Hi George, Thanks for the report. I think the problem may be in your
upsmon.conf. Could you try adding "+EXEC" to the NOTIFYFLAG declarations.
These will then activate the NOTIFYCMD declaration which should cause
upssched to get called. Roger...

Multichannel working at half speed with 2x NICs
Hi Jeremy,
Is it safe to assume it's just "strace -p <pid>", for the running samba
daemon?

ZFS recovery tools
Hi,
I have just recovered from a ZFS crash. During the antagonizing time this took, I was surprised to
learn how undocumented the tools and options for ZFS recovery we''re. I managed to recover thanks
to some great forum posts from Victor Latushkin, however without his posts I would still be crying
at night...
I think the worst example is the zdb man page, which all it does is to ask you
