Fileaccess-Problem Samba <--> Win2k
Hi all
We installed Samba 2.2.3a to host files for the computers of our
secretary-office. Our secretaries are using Win2k computers, mostly Excel.
Win2k - German - SP3
Excel2k Pro - German - SP3
We have the following problem:
If they try to open files using Workplace-Directory-Folders they get following
error: Once in a while Excel hangs after opening three or four files.

Samba 3.0.20 on Solaris: problem with fileaccess in a automounted filesystem
Regards,
Sent this one before, here's another go:
My sambaserver, let's call it sserv, is running Solaris 8 (latest
Recommended set) or 9 (tried both) compiled with automount support.
When PC client A tries to access a file in a automounted mapping from
sserv, the client is freezing and Windows Explorer has to be restarted.
The NFS server which the samba server automounts from is a

Security suggestion concering SSH and port forwarding.
...normal accounts on this
machine allowing them to use -L to forward ports to other machines on the
private network.
Still you want to give other, less trusted people, access to file areas on
the same machine. You want to keep this as secure as possible and wants to
give them accounts allowing them fileaccess to a certain chroot:ed
environment by using the scponlyc shell. You do NOT want these people to
be able to, for example, use port forwarding to access some less secure
W*ndows machines in the private network.
I know a workaround would be to use two different ssh servers with two
different sshd_con...

Downloading Files
I''m building a rails app that will create .xml documents for the users
of a particular intranet.
My question is two fold
1. The files are in /public/files/something.xml, etc...
How can I create a link_to in rails to access these files?
2. How I can I force the file to be downloaded (bring up a save dialog)
as opposed to displaying in the browser?
Thanks for hte help.

settings up cheap a NAS / SAN server, is it possible?
Hi all
I want to look at setting up a simple / cheap SAN / NAS server using
normal PIV motherboard, 2GB (or even more) RAM, Core 2 Duo CPU (probably
a Intel 6700 / 6750 / 6800) & some SATA HDD's (4 or 6x 320GB - 750GB).
My budget is limited, so I can't afford a pre-built NAS device.
Can this be done with CentOS? I've been looking FreeNAS (which is built
on FreeBSD), and it
