R 2.5.0 refuses to print enough digits to recover exact floating point values
I have noticed that in R 2.5.0, no method of textual output will print a "double" mode quantity with more than 15 digits after the decimal point. From the help page (?print.default) it appears that this is intentional, since digits after the fifteenth may be uncertain. However, fifteen digits after the decimal point are not enough to represent all the values that an IEEE-double can take. (You need one more.) This means it is now impossible to write out data in textual format (e.g. in order to manipulate it with another program) and read back i...

Ronaldo anounces retirement from football
...greatest players of all time.[5] Ronaldo has played for Brazil in 97 international matches, amassing 62 goals. He was a part of the Brazilian squad that won the 1994 and 2002 World Cups. During the 2006 FIFA World Cup, Ronaldo became the highest goalscorer in the history of the World Cup with his fifteenth goal, surpassing Gerd M?ller's previous record of 14. Ronaldo retired on 14 February 2011. He cited pain and hypothyroidism as the reason for his premature retirement. [6] He left football with the record of the most goals scored in the history of the FIFA World Cup, including two goals in the...

Channel Mapping Family for Ambisonics
Alright, here is a somewhat formal definition of the channel mapping I had in mind: ------ Channel Mapping Family 2 Allowed numbers of channels: (1 + l)^2 for l = 1...15. Explicitly 1, 4, 9, 16, 25, 36, 49, 64, 81, 100, 121, 144, 169, 196, 225. Ambisonics from first to fifteenth order. Each channel is assigned to an ambisonic component in Ambisonic Channel Number (ACN) order. The ambisonic component with degree n and ambisonic index m corresponds to channel (n * (n + 1) + m). Channels are normalized with Schmidt Semi-Normalization (SN3D). In SN3D, the ambisonic component...

Samba performance on Fast Ethernet network when linked to Win95

If this was to happen then after the fifteenth attempt with the backoff windows of 0-1023 the sending stations would give up. Some time later the TCP layer would try to re-transmit the packet as it hadn't been acknowledge from the receiving end. With the hardware scenario you describe the ethernet cards are the same and...

off topic publication question
Dear R People: Please excuse the off topic question, but I know that I'll get a good answer here. If a single author is writing a journal article, should she use "We performed a test" or "I performed a test", please? I had learned to use "we" without regard to the number of authors. Is that true, please? Thanks for the off topic help. Sincerely, Erin

Summary: read.table on Mac OS X, CARBON vs. DARWIN
Thanks a lot, James!! The problem is fixed. On the version 1.4.0 Mac/darwin (the latest available version for this system) the function read.table (which is called from read.delim etc., too) has the bug you explained. Inserting the row nlines <- nlines+1 after lines <- c(lines, line) removes this bug. M. On Friday, February 22, 2002, at 02:33 PM, james.holtman at convergys.com

Summary re: read.table on Mac OS 10
Thanks to all who responded. Not all of the advice helped me with that particular problem, but, I have learned a lot just from your answers. 1. R for Mac 10 (Carbon version) uses the Mac convention of using ":" for the usual Unix "/" and thanks to Dr. Lumley for that since I'm new to R, Mac10, Macs in general, and Unix. 2. Interestingly, Dr. Ripley suggested to

For example, two-channel ambisonics would be W plus X and three-channel would be W, X and Y. The idea is that you would get these mappings for free -- if there's any use for...

(Classical) Request for Standardization of expanded TAGS
A month or two ago I sent an email to this list proposing to expand the list of "standard" tags for Ogg Vorbis. No tag would be required, but if you wanted to encode certain types of information about a file, you could use a standard tag. I went through the whole discussion, and revised my proposal in light of all the comments from everyone. Here is the updated proposal. This

English vs American voice files
My wife's got an appropriate Southern England (Wimbledon) accent and I'm sure she would try her hand. Does anyone have a comprehensive list of the words that need to be said? Matt, do you have them if your wife's done a set for French users? Mark, if you have the kit maybe you could chop up the file? I write a utility to chop up and compress the wave file based on some of the C
