Background R session on Unix and SIGINT
OK, I managed to create an example without callr, but it is still
somewhat cumbersome. Anyway, here it is.
Terminal 1:
mkfifo fif
R --no-readline --slave --no-save --no-restore < fif
Terminal 2:
cat > fif
Sys.getpid()
This will make Terminal 1 print the pid of the R process, so we can
send a SIGINT:
Terminal 3:
kill -INT pid
The R process is of course still running happily.
Terminal 2 again:
tryCatch(Sys.sleep...

Compiling Samba 2.2.5 on Tru64 UNIX
...5. I compared samba-2.2.3a
lib/snprintf with samba-2.2.5 lib/snprintf and noticed they are different. I
searched for snprintf to be part of Tru64 base system but the search didn't show
up any results.
Any pointers appreciated.
TIA

A Simon pointed out the interrupt is recorded but not processed until
a safe point.
When reading from a fifo or pipe R runs non-interactive, which means
is sits in a read() system call and the interrupt isn't seen until
sometime during evaluation when a safe checkpoint is reached.
When reading from a terminal R will use select() to wait for input and
periodically wake and check for interrupts. In th...

Background R session on Unix and SIGINT
Yeah, I get that they are async.
What happens is that the background process is not doing anything when
the process gets a SIGINT. I.e. the background process is just
listening on its standard input.
AFAICT for an interactive process such a SIGINT is just swallowed,
with a newline outputted to the terminal.
But apparently, for this background process, it is not swallowed, and
it is triggered

samba and NIS?
Hi,
I have a few questions. My goal is to run
NIS and samba so I have a central point of passwd control
and just one place to change passwords. I will eventually
have 5 samba servers so this is quite important to me as
I don't want to have to change passwords and setup passwords
on 5 servers when changing or adding new users.
Can this be done? So that if a user changes his password

[OT] Routing statements
So this is a little off topic but this list is so helpful!!
Is this the correct way to split our /24 block up? Tom suggested
something like this in an earlier post but that did not work either. So
what should I change to make this work?
Internet<===Shorewall Box===>router1<++++T1 Line++++>router2<==LAN
I need a /28 on the Shorewall side of things and the rest on the LAN

Hi,
I?ve installed wine on Ubuntu 6.10 64bit using the following guide :
http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=185557
but, when I type winecfg in Terminal I get the following error :
exec: 29: /usr/bin/wine: not found
Dunno if it may help, but here?s a terminal shot of when wine was
getting installed.

[PATCH 00/20] Switch to ELF modules
From: Matt Fleming <matt.fleming at linux.intel.com>
This series fixes some bugs and switches the elflink branch to be
entirely ELF modules. It applies on top of,
http://syslinux.zytor.com/archives/2011-April/016369.html
The deletions in the diff stat below are mainly from deleting
com32/elflink/modules (finally!). Now there should be no duplicate
code because we don't need COM32 and
