DTrace provider proposal: fibre channel (fc) COMSTAR port provider probes
I have added a specification of probes for the fibre channel COMSTAR
port provider to the DTrace section of wikis.sun.com. The proposal may
be found here: http://wikis.sun.com/display/DTrace/fibre+channel+Provider
I welcome feedback regarding this proposal.

RAID storage - SATA, SCSI, or Fibre Channel?
I have a Dell PowerEdge 2950 and am looking to add more storage. I know a lot
of factors can go into the type of answer given, but for present and future
technology planning, should I look for a rack of SATA, SCSI, or fibre channel
drives? Maybe I'm dating myself with fibre channel, and possibly SCSI?
I may be looking to add a few TB now, and possibly more later.
What are people using these days? What throughput and reliability are you
seeing? What accounts for the cost differences?
Thanks.

CentOS 7 as a Fibre Channel SAN Target
For quite some time I?ve been using FreeNAS to provide services as a NAS over ethernet and SAN over Fibre Channel to CentOS 7 servers each using their own export, not sharing the same one.
It?s time for me to replace my hardware and I have a new R720XD that I?d like to use in the same capacity but configure CentOS 7 as a Fibre Channel target rather than use FreeNAS any further.

Failover testing problem and a heartbeat question
We have a setup with 15 hosts fibre attached via a switch to a common SAN. Each host has a single fibre port, the SAN has two controllers each with two ports. The SAN is exposing four OCFS2 v1.4.2 volumes. While performing a failover test, we observed 8 hosts fence and 2 reboot _without_ fencing. The OCFS2 FAQ recommends a default d...

Virtualization of Fibre Channel?
In principle, will Xen handle virtualization of Fibre Channel HBA''s? Say I
have a physical server with a single FC HBA installed. If I create two
domains, will XEN virtualize the HBA so that both of the domains can talk to
the FC fabric?

Exporting a PCI Device
Hi All,
just a quick question I could not figure out. Is there a way to export a
PCI device to multiple VMs (para) keeping it available to dom0? Xen
version is 3.0.4.
Thanks,
Jan

Xyratex disk units
...ring if any one knows of a way to manage Xyratex disk shelves from CentOS (in particular CentOS 4).
More details:
Some years ago I installed a NAS unit from Exanet which consists of 2 rebadged IBM x3650 head nodes and a couple of Xyratex disk shelves with a total of 96 TB of raw disk, connected by fibre channel. The operating system is based on CentOS 4.4, but is modified, and runs a proprietary file system. It has pretty good performance and I'm happy with it.
You may know that the company went bust some years ago, so I have been running this system unsupported. I am loath to give up the di...

live migration with xen 2.0.7 with fibre channel on Debian - help needed
...ive migration during heavy load of domU.
scenario:
- both dom0s and domU are running on Debian Sarge.
- script on dom0 triggers live-migration to the other dom0
- domU is running I/O tests, e.g. bonnie++
- domUs root- (ext3) and swap fs is stored on two partitions in a san
- san is connected using fibre channel cards to both dom0s
- san in dom0 works fine (tested with bonnie++ and own consistency test)
observation:

how xen recognizes fibre channel based storage resources
...access to disk storage physically created
on FC array.
I read that this could be done by OCFS or Lustre file system but my
question is: how virtualized OS (dom>0) recognizes FC resources.
If I understand well dom0 sees all as local disks: scsi disk in
physicall server and connected via HBA fibre channel resource. And if I
create dom1 partially (system part) located on local scsi disk and
partially (shared part) on FC array - then how other domu''s located on
other physical machines will see this shared ocfs-ed volume?
Is it an issue of HBA driver to make it possible?
I would...

memory issue
Hello,
I received the following question from a company I am working with:
We are having issues with our early experiments with ZFS with volumes
mounted from a 6130.
Here is what we have and what we are seeing:
T2000 (geronimo) on the fibre with a 6130.
6130 configured with UFS volumes mapped and mounted on several
other hosts.
it''s the only host using ZFS volume (only one volume/filesystem
configured).
When I attempt to load the volume from backup, we see memory being
consumed at a
very high rate on the h...

Fibre Channel SAN + HBA + Xen = how ?
Hello,
I have been looking around all day and lot''s of things are being thrown at me such as npiv and vscsi and such.
I have an HITACHI,DF600F SAN which goes via two switch fabrics and plugs in to the dual port Qlogic HBA on the server(s).
I have 4 Dell 2950''s at current which are under-utilised. I want to buy new 2xR710 and consolidate these 4 servers to a single physical

Where to put the kernel driver for a Fibre Channel HBA card.
CentOS 6.4 (amd64) stock kernel.
HBA FC Accusys ACS 63200NT
I built the driver from source, insmod activates the device and I can
see the 24 TB storage volume via 'parted --list' I have created a XFS
files system and mounted it under /srv/
Where do I need to install the driver in /lib/modules/ ... directory

Major RAC slowdown
...laces a few minutes later. At one point, we had one node's load average up over 300. Our site activity has been on the rise, and the problems usually occur during peak mid-day hours.
Under normal conditions, "top" shows the CPUs spending most of their time waiting on the very busy fibre channel. During the slowdowns, the processors are mostly busy with system calls. Traffic over both the fibre channel and gigabit interconnect seems to drop off considerably at the same time.
I've got a TAR open, but the support people are still in the very preliminary stages (for example,...

Mounting a Mac OS Extended (Journaled) Hard Drive
Hi,
I need to migrate about 8Tb of data from a Mac Fibre Channel RAID to by LVM Ext3 Linux Fibre Channel RAID. For speed I planned to connect both RAID's to my CentOS Server and copy the data directly.
The Mac volume is formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) it seems that CentOS 5.4 supports reading HFS volumes but not HFSPlus volumes. Is there a...

making scsi disks visible to RHEL 5 guest
Hi,
I created an HVM type virtual machine and installed RHEL5U7
guest in it. I have assigned 7 scsi disks to the virtual machine in
physical mode (using phy:), however, I see those disks are xvd and not
as scsi.
Is anyone aware what the problem might be ? Please let me know
what kind of information do I need to post in order to narrow down to
the problem.
Thanks,
K
