FiberChannel, and EMC tutorial?
Hi all,
Can anyone explain to me, or point me to any docs that explain how the
following numbers map together?
I have multiple LUNS exported to my HBA''s from multiple EMC arrays.
zpool status, and /dev/dsk show device names like:

filesystem mounting fails at boot
...m attempting to mount these
filesystems until the network has been enabled on the system).
This device is not a network device (this a SAN not a NAS). To the OS it
looks like a normal SCSI attached device, it's /dev/sdb. In the blade
there is a HBA (Qlogic) card, and it's connected through FiberChannel.
If I understand these terms correctly, it has nothing to do with the
network.

filesystem mounting fails at boot
Hi
I have an IBM blade with internal harddisks, in hardware RAID1. I've
installed a CentOS 6 64bit on it, everything works just fine.
After the installation, I've presented a vdisk to the blade from an
external SAN (an HP EVA4000), connected through FiberChannel. I've
partitioned the disk, formatted it and mounted it under /store, then
added it to fstab. Everything was fine, until I rebooted.
At boot I'm getting the following error for /store:
Mounting local filesystems: mount: special device

of course, the really tricky problem is implementing an ISCSI storage
infrastructure thats fully redundant and has no single point of
failure. this requires the redundant storage controllers to have
shared write-back cache, fully redundant networking, etc. The
fiberchannel SAN folks had all this down pat 20 years ago, but at an
astronomical price point.
The more complex this stuff gets, the more points of potential failure
you introduce.

Really high io wait times with OCFS2 in a mail server
Hi there.
We have just setup a mail server with storage in a EMC Clariion SAN with
fiberchannel connections.
We're using two HP Proliant servers sharing the mail filesystem with OCFS2.
The mail filesystem has several big directories having the biggest one over
7000 user directories.
Some of the users have over 4000 messages, using Maildir as mail layout.
We are experiencing really hi...

cluster service
I've setup the CentOS version of the RH Cluster Service on a pair of
centos 4.4 i386 test boxes... wanting to do high availabilty stuff.
its working, I've added a virtual IP and a fiberchannel hosted e3fs file
system thhat either can mount, if I manually crash or reboot one, this
IP and FS mount on the other, awesome.
the servers are connected to the storage via a QLogic SANbox 5600
fiberswitch, and I've added a SANbox2 'fence device' to the cluster,
with its IP and logi...

Here is something I am currently lokoing at, and wondering if you'd
considered it or if anyone here has done it.
I've got a bunch of existing hardware - really good IBM stuff that is
all installed with CentOS (with a few exceptions). We want to move to
virtualization, but

Live migration not permanent?
Hi,
I tried to do live migration from machine A to B. After the migration, machine A still had the record of the VM, though the VM was not running any more. Also, if I shut down the VM on machine B, its record on B would be gone --- I could not see it using "xm list" anymore. However, I can still start the VM on machine A using "xm start".
Looks like the migration just move

card then there is simply no real RAID functionality and no LSI
component in that server model.
NEC engineers very solid and produces very reliable server hardware.
Many components are industry standard, as the Intel chipsets and
processors, OEM LSI RAID controller cards, Emulex FiberChannel HBAs, ...
NEC does not do any strange modification like implementing LSI firmware
into Intel chips. Though their motherboards are their own design and are
manufactured in Japan.

Openfiler question - fiber channel?
...er the network. And it seems obvious to me that I'd want
a dedicated network for doing that. That part is easy.
But based on some poking around on the openfiler site and in the
forums, it looks to me like it might be possible to stick a fiber
channel card into an openfiler system, and serve fiberchannel out to
other systems? Is that right? Is anyone here doing this?
This does tie back in to CentOS directly because most of my systems
are CentOS, and I'd eventually like to migrate them in this direction,
depending on what comes of my benchmarking
thanks,

Storage Area Network
Hello,
I have a Rocks cluster based on Centos 5.2. Can this Centos version support a Storage Area Network?
What kind of software do I need for installing and managing it?

centos 5 GFS/Cluster - configure fence using NIC?
How does one configure a fence device in the form of a NIC card in
centos 5? Is the gnbd item relevant to this?
I have posted the question to linux-cluster also, but they are much less
active overall, -so if you have info, massively appreciated...

Finding Disks
Is there a command that will list the disks that the system currently has?
The df and mount commands only display info about filesystems.

IBM x3755 M3 + Qlogic Fibercahnnel- Virtualization Friendly?
...Everyone,
Whenever purchasing hardware we make it an effort to validate OS,
driver and now hypervisor compatibility. Being a low budget company,
we really look for the best bang for the bug. Right now that happens
to be:
x3755 M3 brandishing the AMD SR5690 chipset. We plan on installing a
QLogic fiberchannel and a graphics card that support PCI passthrough.
Before doing anything we are seeking the communities experiences,
advice and feedback.
As far as I have been told we have IOMMU enabled BIOS, so that should
be promising.
Kind Regards,
Nick.
