FFXI Ultimate Collection: Abyssea Edition Install
I know the HowTo deals with installing FFXI from a DVD but I'm having problems installing this from an .exe downloaded from the Square Enix Store. Basically the installer runs, and I'm able to continue in the installer, then select the components to install (POL, FFXI and all 4 expansions). However, when I click Next, the Installer skips to the Install Completion window. Note that this

Problems with Final Fantasy XI Online - Japanese
Hello all,
I've been trying (and thus far failing) to get the Japanese version of FFXI working under wine. I have been playing FFXI here in Japan since the release, so I have the original Japanese 4-disc CD set, plus the extra CDs/DVDs for each different expansion.
I originally started with wine-1.3.8, and for the most part, the CD installs and POL/FFXI updates worked fine -- I was actually

FFXI on Debian Etch 4.0-r6 AMD64
I followed the instructions for setting up FFXI on Wine (including copying the .dll from the Windows XP system) but when I launch pol.exe, it just comes up with a black screen. I can hear music for a few minutes but then it crashes. Anyone have any ideas?
Code:
nate at tux:~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/PlayOnline/SquareEnix/PlayOnlineViewer$ wine pol.exe

Why isn't patch code written into releases??
This has kind of annoyed me lately. The FFXI patch code has been around for ages now, but it still isn't included in development releases (currently 1.1.17). Nor priobably more usefully is the Fallout 3 patch which benifits others games with the VideoDriver ability?? Is there actually any reason why they are not included??

Installing Final Fantasy XI on Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook Remix
Hello Wine Forum Members,
This is my first post and I am looking forward to many more. My first initial question is: Is it possible to run FFXI on Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook Remix? I've seen some earlier posts about running FFXI on 10.04, but I haven't found anything where someone would be trying on something much smaller. I am new with ubuntu and Wine. So if this is possible is there some kind

Re: Problems with Final Fantasy XI Online - Japanese
Resurrecting this old thread after more than a year in the hope that maybe someone will have some kind of idea or suggestion...
I'm now using wine-1.4-rc1, and still am unable to get past the FFXI character selection screen. I still cannot install the Altana expansion DVD yet either.
Unfortunately borrowing the English version to test is not possible for me, as I live in Japan. Buying it

Playonline needs 32-bit true color
I installed playonline under WINE on Ubuntu. It installed without any problem, and when I went to load it up it even starts to open up like it would in windows. But then an error appeared:
_______
Error Code = 20008027
Can only be displayed properly in 32-bit true color. Start Playonline viewer anyway?
_______
If I click no, it closes. If I click yes it actually starts up, plays music, and I

dll files
I'm a recent convert to the Linux lifestyle, and I would like to get to a point where I rarely, if ever, have to boot into Windows on my machine. While I'm not a huge gamer, I do enjoy Final Fantasy XI. I would like to get it to run under Linux/Wine. According to the information from the AppDB, the only way to get FFXI working under Wine is to have a copy of the dxdiagn.dll from Windows

Joypad axis not being detected in wine.
I've searched for this all over the place and couldn't find anyone having the same problem.
I have a Logitech Wingman wireless controller.
As far as I can tell from doing various calibrations on it, the kernel and all other programs detect all axis.
However when trying to map the controller in wine, it detects all axes, including the slider bar at the top right, but the Y axsis on the

Final Fantasy XI occasionally freezes
Hi
I have problem with FFXI since after the last nvidia/xorg/wine updates, the game occasionally freezes during gameplay. Sometimes it comes back but the most times it freezes for good and i must kill it to restart. I believe its the nvidia 195.x.x driver series and/or xorg 1.7.x because it worked just fine with 190.x and older xorg. I talked to a workmate who also plays the game on linux and the

Sound works... but just stops
I have some issues with sound.
I play world of warcraft in in Ubuntu 10.04 it ran just fine. No sound issues no problems.
About the same time that Ubuntu 10.10 came out, Warcraft updated as well.
NOW the sound works..but will just STOP and cut off and not work again until I reboot the PC. In an Ubuntu forum a guy was telling me he had the same issue with Starcraft 2.

PlayOnline Viewer fails to complete installation
Hi there, folks. I've been trying to install the Vista/Windows 7 PlayOnline Viwer for FFXI and I've run into a problem; it fails to complete its install. It gets beyond the point where it extracts the POL/TetraMaster msi's however, it fails on the step right after. Here's the list of fixmes that it spits out when it bombs:

Summary: do.call and environments
To use the modify the solution from Tony and I
so that you can pass the name of the function, rather
than the function itself, like this:
x <- 7
fx <- function(y) print(x*y)
f <- function(fun, x) {
fun <- get(fun)
environment(fun) <- environment()
do.call("fun",list(3))
}
f("fx",2)
