use aov or lme for split plot design?
Dear all I'm not sure if I did the right analysis for my specific split splot design. We are studying biomass increase with different CO2 concentrations with four different functional plant groups (e.g. grasses, herbs, broad-leafed trees and conifers). Of each functional plant group we have four species. The design is orthogonal. The design is: Blocks: 2 (climate chambers, called

Plotting league tables/ caterpillar plots
Dear list, I was wondering if there is a function to plot league tables, sometimes also known as "caterpillar plots"? A league table is conceptually very similar to a box plot. One difference is that the inter-quartile ranges are not shown. If there isn't such a function a first attempt for a "selfmade" plot would be to tell boxplot not to plot boxes (sounds silly

Analyses of covariation with lme() or lm()
Hello all! I have a problem that calls for a better understanding, than mine, of how lme() uses the random part of the call. The dataset consists of eleven field trials (Trial) with three replicates (Block) and four fertiliser treatments (Treat). Analysing for example yield with lme() is easy: m1 <- lme(Yield ~ Treat, data=data, random =~1| Trial/Block) giving estimates of Treat effects with good significances. If I compare m1 with the model without any random structure: m2 <- lm(Yield ~ Treat, da...

3 or 4 level Split plot
As an agronomist, sometimes i need to perform statistical analisys on "weird" field data, like 3 or 4 level split plot design. I've read both the help of the program, some books and manual about S and "Venables/Ripley, Modern Applied Statistics with S", but i still have problems in (i suppose) formulae sintax. I'm trying to perform AOV, as explained showed in

Production environment for Rails on Win32, anyone interested for a binary release?
Hi all, as part of adopting Rails in my company I had to go through the hassle of setting up a Rails production environment on Win32 system since we mostly use MS SQL as our database back end and also because we mostly dealing with customers who become green-blue-purple as soon as you mention Unix/Linux and run for the door. I also need to mention that most of our web applications are internal and
