use aov or lme for split plot design?
...same 4 functional plant groups (funktGr), each represented by four species (the species are nested in the functional plant groups, because if I take species as a single factor I get 16 species, which is not true. in each chamber I have four replicates (pseudoreplicates) half of the plants got fertilisation (Fert), that means each plant got it's own fertilisation the response variable is biomass (g) Randomisation was done to plot and subplot level. I tried this: aov(log(g)~CO2*funktGr/Species*Fert+Error(Gruppe/CO2),data=biomass) the output is: Error: Gruppe Df Sum Sq Mean Sq F...

Plotting league tables/ caterpillar plots
...selfmade" plot would be to tell boxplot not to plot boxes (sounds silly isn't it?). I've tried the option "boxwex=0" but the result is unsatisfactory. An example for a league table can be found in Marshall, Spiegelhalter [1998], Reliability of league tables of in vitro fertilisation clinics, BMJ1998;316:1701-1705, you may find it at http://bmj.bmjjournals.com Thanks in advance Eik Vettorazzi

Analyses of covariation with lme() or lm()
Hello all! I have a problem that calls for a better understanding, than mine, of how lme() uses the random part of the call. The dataset consists of eleven field trials (Trial) with three replicates (Block) and four fertiliser treatments (Treat). Analysing for example yield with lme() is easy: m1 <- lme(Yield ~ Treat, data=data, random =~1| Trial/Block) giving estimates of

I'm trying to perform AOV, as explained showed in "Random and Mixed Effects", chapter 10, V./R., on a data set i collected on turf root density under different turf species, substrates, fertilisation and sampling depht. ..and 12 replicates So, on a general formulation, i have a response factor, say, Roots, treatmens T1, T2, T3 and T4, and Rep replicates, organized on a four levels split plot design. I have an old gwbasic program, simple and time tested, that can calculate the analisys of v...

From a methodological perspective, this investi...

Production environment for Rails on Win32, anyone interested for a binary release?
Hi all, as part of adopting Rails in my company I had to go through the hassle of setting up a Rails production environment on Win32 system since we mostly use MS SQL as our database back end and also because we mostly dealing with customers who become green-blue-purple as soon as you mention Unix/Linux and run for the door. I also need to mention that most of our web applications are internal and
