OK, I'm stumped
...call a number, play an
announcement when the call is answered, then call a second number and
connect the two when the second call is answered.
I an able to make a simple call to two numbers and connect them using
the manager API but playing the announcement has me beat.
Suggestions anyone?

Ferret+Lucene Index
We use Nutch and Lucene for our heavy duty text analysis jobs but I?m trying
to use ferrret to do some experiments. I understood that Ferret used the
same index format as lucene but I cannot look into a lucene index with
ferret and cannot read a ferret index with luke (the lucene index browser).
Am I doing somehting wrong or have the formats diverged?

Semi-newbie question "Softswitch" and Asterisk - Is there a difference?

I've seen one commercial product recently based on openh323proxy called
a transit softswitch and now I'm looking at asterisk.
Is there a difference between what asterisk is and a softswitch? Can
someone explain it in small words and phrases for me?

Possibly I don't understand sip peers
I have a carrier who tells me he will be sending me traffic from a wide
range of IP addresses.
so I set up a realtime peer as follows:

deny=0.0.0.0/0.0.0.0
allow=xxx.xxx.xxx.0/255.255.255.0

SIP OPTIONS... Error?
...PTIONS message handling has changed and I've seen
some write ups that seem to indicate that an s extension in the default
context is needed now to get them to work.
It's probably my error in any case.
So, what am I doing wrong or what do I need to do to get the sip ping to
work?
Bruce Ferrell
Just for fun, I created a sip peer called ping at a fixed address with a
default context of ping:
sip.conf

[ping]
type=peer
host=XX.XX.XX.XX
defaultip=XX.XX.XX.XX
context=ping
extensions.conf
============
[ping]
exten => s,1,NoOp()
I am sending the following:

...m host name "www.hdt-project.org"
So, not sure what the dns issue is. Last year, it showed it was expired, as did
the year before, and I just renewed it. This year, the option wasn't there, and
perhaps it was already in the process of being renewed?
