Ruby on Rails hosting on BlueHost.com -- Feeback needed
hi Friends,
Planning to use BlueHost.com for my Ruby on Rails application hosting on
their $6.95 per month. Is anyone using them ? What version of ROR do
they provide ? What kind of webserver does they provide ? How much RAM ?
Can i re-start the web-server if my ROR application demands ?
May be the above answers would be best answered by their sales dept. But
if anyone is using them, please

Manage several graphical devices in interactive mode
Dear R-users,
Does anybody know a good way to create and use several graphical devices at
the same time in interactive mode? Ideally, I'd like to open 2 to 3 devices
and assign names to them. This way, I could make any
addition/modification/update to a particular device using its name.
I did not see anything like a name argument in ?X11. Is there an
alternative?
Thanks in advance for your

unofficial ext3 and ext4 compare
I have something like 300G I routinely backup.
This includes some large 12Gig images and other files.
I had been using ext3 on an external USB disk for part of the process.
Under ext3 doing "rsync -a /home /mnt/external_back/backup.jun.27.2011"
it took 200 minutes.
I took the same computer, same external HD and reformatted it for ext4
(mkfs.ext4 /dev/sdd1).
I then started the same

dovecot mailbox to csv
We (the Math department at the U of Wisconsin) recently switched over from
another server to dovecot
One thing that a lot of people here do is set up an on-line form that sends
them email. They use formmail for this. I have them edit their procmail
config so that all the messages go into a particular mail folder.... So far
so good.
With our old system, all messages in a folder were kept in a

Open thougts about the project governance & workflow
Hi folks,
I've been involved in Syslinux since 14 years and been almost off for many
years for multiple reasons. I'm currently trying to recover and while
observing the project with a little of distance I noticed the following :
- project's activity is pretty low
- patches sent to the mailing list (ML) are not likely to be reviewed
- Integration workflow is pretty unclear
- release

has_template() for choosing between templates
All,
I just wrote a function which allows me to choose between templates.
This makes working with templates very similar to choosing between
static files when passing multiple arguments to the source attribute.

Very interested in any feeback.
Best,
Adam

Rails 1.2.0 RC2 duplicate lines Simian Report
I have been evaluating the excellent and super fast Similarity Analyser
by Red Hill Consulting to generate a duplicate lines reports from Rails
1.2.0 RC2 source code (excluding the tests) with a threshold of 6
lines.
It works great except that simian treats successive "end" as dupplicate
lines :-((( such as:
end
172 end
173 end
174 end
175 end
176 end

survival changes
In the next version of the survival package I intend to make a non-upwardly compatable
change to the survfit object.? With over 600 dependent packages this is not something to
take lightly, and I am currently undecided about the best way to go about it.? I'm looking
for advice.
The change: 20+ years ago I had decided not to include the initial x=0,y=1 data point in
the survfit object

2 package resources for the same package installation in two differents modules caused errors
...nderstand what this
error meant:
does it mean that all the package resource ensuring the installation
of a package need to have a unique resource name ?
Or maybe have we done something wrong in our usage of puppet ?
Below, the code causing the error and how we fixed it.
Thanks in advance for your feebacks.
Best regards,
Christophe

MD4 bug-fix for protocol version 27
Hi,
while implementing the rsync protocol in one of our projects I found
that the current CVS version still has a MD4 bug. I'm using the FreeBSD
libmd implementation and I still had checksum mismatches with protocol
version 27 for files whose size was a multiple of 64 - 4 ( - 4 due to
checksum_seed). A patch for todays CVS version is attached.
Someone should also review the clean_fname()

Strange Sorting Issues

I''m having some strange sorting stuff goign on. Here''s my search method:

@results = Listing.find_by_contents @search_criteria, :limit => :all,
:sort => sort_fields

SPAM on List...
Re: Per the discussions about spam on this list.
Sending a confirming message to an unregistered poster is not a good
idea. The return/reply-to addresses in spam is forged, and that is just
adding to some victims e-mail.
Filtering runs the risk that a legitimate message gets lost, and the
sender does not realize it.
Filtering is also the most expensive and innefficient way to deal with

I also cross-compiled from Linux to 32 bit Windows and the compile ran to
