Again, alot depends on what packages you have installed and _from what repos_ that determines a lot about your upgrade experience. Even Ubuntu LTS blows up when using non-standard repos. I'll say to you what I said to someone e...

heads up: /boot space on kernel upgrade
Default boot volume on Fedora is 500M, with a kernel installonly_limit of 3. So far this seems sufficient, even accounting for the "rescue kernel" (which is really a nohostonly initramfs, which is quite a bit larger than the standard hostonly initramfs used for numbered kernels).

Re: PCI Passthrough
...version or not. I pestered them about it for months, then finally gave up. BTW, you know that F18 has just gone end-of-life, right? This means no more updates of any type, even security updates. You can actually upgrade your F18 machine to F19, and F19 to F20, using the "fedup" package (I haven't tried using fedup to go directly from F18 to F20, but I suppose you could look into it). *A lot* has changed in virtualization in the last year, and as a bonus, you'll be covered for security fixes for another year. Is the...

installing C7 on a laptop with Win7, dual boot
...y, modify its 40_custom to have the Windows chainloader and Fedora configfile forwarding entries. Thing is, you want the newest GRUB binaries to be primary and usually that's Fedora. In your case with CentOS 7 and Fedora 19 it's probably a draw. But as Fedora 19 is EOL, you probably want to fedup that system to Fedora 21 one of these days :-D. Chris Murphy

I do not get any issues with time setting at all. That said, I wonder if centos has a counterpart to fedup, so that I can upgrade to centos 7.5. Cheers, Joe

heads up: /boot space on kernel upgrade
.... So far this seems sufficient, even accounting for the "rescue > kernel" (which is really a nohostonly initramfs, which is quite a bit > larger than the standard hostonly initramfs used for numbered > kernels). IIRC, we saw discussions elsewhere, and ... I think it's called fedup (great name, great marketing!) that updated a full release, and it *really* needed > 500M, as it was dumping a *lot* in /boot. And, as they say, disk space is cheap, esp. when we buy multiterabyte disks, even for the root drive. (Ok, most of them are 1TB). mark

building R from source on fedora using shared library option
Hi All: I still use fedora 17 ( heard about fedup so plan on trying it soon ) and the only way to currently obtain a recent version of R when you're on 17 is to build it from source. ( if anyone knows another way, let me know. ). So, I was able to do that initially. But then I tried to run Rstudio and it complained about the lack of a shared...

PCI Passthrough
I'm trying to pass-through my VGA card to a guest session. I found: http://www.linux-kvm.org/page/How_to_assign_devices_with_VT-d_in_KVM - which is very frustrating because there's no date on the documentation. I suspect it's old. It does clearly say that you must have VT-d support for pci pass-through. It then goes on to say "Some work towards allowing this ["software

Upgrade from CentOS6.6 to CentOS 7
Hi All Is it possible to upgrade from CentOS 6.7 to CentOS 7? I see there is some attempt at an upgrade tool available, but it's apparently broken: https://wiki.centos.org/TipsAndTricks/CentOSUpgradeTool Would anyone be able to recommend a manual upgrade procedure to upgrade a minimal CentOS 6.7 system to one or other version of CentOS 7? Many thanks in advance, Traiano

R binaries for Fedora 17.
I am currently (still) running Fedora 17 --- having not managed to screw my courage to the sticking place and upgrade. Even though we are now up to Fedora 20, I think. The traffic on the Fedora mailing list on the upgrading issue is a bit terrifying. I would just like to confirm that: It is ***NOT*** possible to download a binary of R for Fedora 17. Is this correct? My efforts to

Fedora 18 dom0, no video?
...did launch, and it went all the way through the installer until the end, then threw some error which I don''t recall at the moment. So to get a working box, I ran the Fedora 17 kickstart as I would on any other box, without incident, did a ''yum update'' and then ''fedup'' to bring the box up to Fedora 18. It booted fine, no issues. Following the guide at http://wiki.xen.org/wiki/Fedora_Host_Installation to enable Xen, as I''ve done with countless other Fedora boxes, I installed Xen and setup the bridge. When I booted into Xen, it gets to the part...
