Or killall hal-addon-hid-ups before starting nut. I'm thinking the killall is the least dirty workaround, but what is the right way to tell hal not to mess with the UPS (or any UPS for that matter).

Given that I hardly ever use the CD-ROM drive, it makes no sense to have hal constantly polling it for new media. How can I disable this polling in CentOS 5.1? Thanks.
