That might be true, but I see its still packaged and available in
Fedora. Its possible that it is completely nonfunctional...

It?s not a question of what is ?newer?. Fedora has ?fbset?, and has had it since before CentOS6 was released, and continues to have it in Fedora 22 and Rawhide.
Red Hat decided not...

as far as I can tell, fbset hasn't been updated since the 90s, its a
piece of history, I doubt it has any place in a modern X system.

nouveau framebuffer sync polarity
...in kernel version 2.6.37.6.
my graphic adapter is a msi 9500gt, connected to a Barco CRT projector.
The Barco will only accept RGB signals with a negative sync.
Is there a kernel command line parameter to force negative sync
polarity?
Or is there a user space command to set framebuffer parameters, fbset
does'nt work with nouveau frame buffers.

4K ~ 3840x2160 resolution and frame buffer support
...fer that does 3840x2160 ?
With nouveau installed as my video driver, I can get to a frame buffer
console of 1920x1080, but I am limited to that resolution in Xfce as well.
With a proprietary nVidia driver installed I can get to 4K in Xfce, but
my frame buffer is 640x480, 4 bit color. When I try fbset to change
anything, it doesn't work.
I have not even bothered to try my code so see of any of it can actually
work in the frame buffers I get.
Still scratching my head....
Thank you for your time.

Activate DVI-I behind KVM on FX 5200
Hi folks,
I don't seem to be able to enable the DVI-I output of an old FX 5200
behind a KVM switch. Autodetection works fine if the FX 5200 DVI output
is switched to the monitor, but when it is not, I have not found a way
to force-enable it.
Here is what I tried:
*) used the video=DVI-I-1:1280x1024-24 at 60e kernel parameter
(framebuffer still sits at 1024x768)
*) used "options

CentOS 5 gotchas
As some folks on irc have pointed out, and has been covered a bit in
the beta discussions:
There is no longer a 'Minimal' install option for centos5 in anaconda,
however if you choose 'Customize Now' and uncheck all the selections,
you will get a minimal install that only requires disk1, and weighs in
at around 594MB. With kickstart it is possible to further reduce the

[Bug 39495] New: MX440-8X TV-detect/framebuffer problem
.../attachment.cgi?id=49447)
dmesg
KMS with MX440-8X, when framebuffer kicks in, it's not full-screen but only a
part of the screen on the upper left corner, like 1/4 of the whole monitor
area. Two outputs are detected, VGA-1 and TV-1 and clone mode gets enabled.
Fixed with video=TV-1:d and also fbset works to make it full-screen, but these
shouldn't be needed. TV-1 connector is composite, or atleast looks like one.

Then I understand even less what exactly this code does ... Should we keep
it? Is it just pure cargo-cult? Only needed when we'd change the color
depth of the fbdev buffer, which we never do at runtime?

[PATCH 01/11] drm/fb-helper: do a generic fb_setcmap helper in terms of crtc .gamma_set
This makes the redundant fb helpers .load_lut, .gamma_set and .gamma_get
totally obsolete.
I think the gamma_store can end up invalid on error. But the way I read
it, that can happen in drm_mode_gamma_set_ioctl as well, so why should
this pesky legacy fbdev stuff be any better?
drm_fb_helper_save_lut_atomic justs saves the gamma lut for later. However,
it saves it to the gamma_store which should
