Convert from FBSD
I would like to load OpenSolaris on my file server. I have previously loaded FBSD using zfs as the storage file system. Will OpenSolaris be able to import the pool and mount the file system created on FBSD or will I have to recreate the the file system.

XP Problem
Hi,
I have the following:
Win2k server with AD for domain login validation. There is a secondary
Win2k server as well.
RH5.2 with samba samba-2.0.4b-19990519
RH6.2 with samba samba-2.2.2-20011014
I wish to setup one or two very basic shares on each of the RH boxes.
share level security will be fine.
Win2k seems to work ok.
XP doesn't. It cannot find the servers with search.

incomprehesible quirk
I am really quite puzzled as to why I have to edit smb.conf every time I
want to print to the FreeBSD machine from Win2K. (Running FBSD 4.7, samba
2.2.7 and cups 1.1.15.1_4.
When I log onto FBSD with username, password, I see the folders for the
printers, home, tmp, etc. but no printer. (Only 1 installed - Epson Stylus
Color 900).
I can access the shares on FBSD from Win2k, but there is no printer.
If I edit smb.conf, with insig...

dovecot / tcp-wrappers / FBSD 10.3
Can anyone share the proper config to get wrappers working in dovecot on
FreeBSD?
The dovecot examples do not seem to work, and I thought perhaps FBSD
needs slightly different configs.
I've compiled with: -DHAVE_LIBWRAP
which I presume is the first step.
The example for dovecot.conf in uncommenting:
login_access_sockets = tcpwrap
merely causes a log error of "imap-login: Error: connect(tcpwrap)
failed: No such file or directory&...

FBSD All-in-one security box?
Hey *, as I sweat through another day of crap dealing with an
all-in-one box (firewall, IDS, AVS, report generating, soon to
be a VPN server) I'm wondering if someone has started a project
to put some freeware together in some semblance of sanity on a
FBSD box. There's basically nothing that this box does that a
combo of IPFW (or another bsd filter), snort, ntop, and some
other freeware stuff can't do.
As usual the problems I face stem from feature-overload, since
the vendor has one crappy feature and then adds another crappy
feature instea...

Loading a FreeBSD 10 VM on QEMU-KVM..
I was trying to load a FreeBSD 10 VM on my CentOS 6.4 machine, and it keeps
hanging and not completing the boot. I have FBSD 9.x VM's running just
fine, but if I try and load 10.x it's a no go.
Attaching to the console using VNC, I see:

samba3 FreeBSD pdc
Hello,
Most of the docs i've seen for implementing samba3 as a pdc are for
Linux. And for a most part they work with FreeBSD. I've not got the box
production yet, i have several questions and was wondering if anyone used
samba3 on fbsd as a pdc? If so i'd appreciate hearing from you. I want to
set up single sign-on authentication, and password changing with the fbsd
system. So that a user can ssh in to the box change the password it's
reflected everywhere or the user does it from windows. I am not getting the

Status of SPARC64 port?
...4.7 or 4.8 port, wondering if its in any state
to put on my Solaris v100.
Just need the basics, eide, network, kbm, mouse, graphics (x).
A bonus would be support for the lom (light out management) features and the
flash card.
Reason for change is I HOPE that the math (ssl) performance is better on
FBSD, as well as I am just tired of keeping track of
/opt/bin,/usr/opt/bin,/usr/bin//spare/user/opt/bin/,/opt/sfw and the mired
of other paths.
It looks like mixed message there, with one page saying it supports the
v100, another saying it does yet.
And if nor FBSD, then which one? OpenBSD, NetBSD?

NUT on FBSD 14-2 fails to shut down UPS - select with socket: Invalid argument
*That* command would shut it down, same as `upsdrvctl shutdown` but with a
better chance to debug what actually happens in the dialog.
Actually with NUT v2.8.2 you can also request debug of drivers via
`upsdrvctl -d -DDDDDD shutdown ups_bottom` or some such (`-d` tells it to
pass debug flags to driver programs it launches).

Problems with Krb5/GSSAPI patches in FBSD 4.3
Hi,
I am trying to impliment OpenSSH v2.9p1 with the Krb5/GSSAPI patches at:
http://www.sxw.org.uk/computing/patches/openssh-2.9p1-gssapi.patch
On a FreeBSD 4.3-STABLE system (with both the integrated Heimdal libs and
the MIT Krb5 package from ports intstalled). I patched the src tree,
reconfigured, recompiled, installed, and it works - except for Krb5
passwords or Krb5 tickets. And I really

fbsd not vulnerable to recent bind issues?
Hi,
Recently some security issues with bind have come up.
NetBSD patched it's version of 9.3.0:
http://mail-index.netbsd.org/source-changes/2005/01/27/0009.html
Is the version in RELENG_5 not affected?

dovecot w/ libwrap on fbsd
Dovecot with libwrap doesn't work on FreeBSD for some reason or another.
I have these lines in my /etc/hosts.allow:
ALL: LOCAL 127.0.0.1: allow
pop3: ALL: allow
ALL: ALL: deny
Yet when you try to telnet to localhost, port 110 this is what happens:
Aug 29 22:48:38 dodo dovecot: pop3-login: Error: connect(tcpwrap) failed: Permission denied
I also tried auth_debug=yes to see what's wrong

sudo + pam_lastlog causes user to appear logged out in logs.
...sappeared when running `w`

pam_lastlog.so is included in sudo's pam file. This results in the user
still being logged in though according to the system logs the user has
logged out. Here's an example:
