Samba 2.2.5 and openldap 2.1.2
Hi, I'm having problems with the current samba releases (2.2.4 + 2.2.5) and the current openldap (openldap-2.1.2-1) redhat rawhide RPMS. I suppose samba is having problems with LDAP v3, because when I try for example: [root@fatboy /tmp]# /usr/local/samba/bin/pdbedit -l Bind failed: Protocol error in syslog appears: Jun 24 00:52:55 fatboy slapd[14370]: connection_get(16) Jun 24 00:52:55 fatboy slapd[14378]: send_ldap_result: err=2 matched="" text="requested protocol version not allowed" Jun 24 00:52:55 f...

migrate courier to dovecot script - questions about directory structure
...dir part ? My initial plan was to copy the entire /home/vmail/<domain.com.au>/* across to the dovecot server and run the migration script. However, without the Maildir directory in the structure it won't work. Has anyone run into this issue ? How did you solve it ? -- Regards Ross fatboy:/tmp# dovecot --version 1.0.15 fatboy:/tmp# dovecot -n # 1.0.15: /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf log_timestamp: %Y-%m-%d %H:%M:%S protocols: imap imaps pop3 pop3s disable_plaintext_auth: no login_dir: /var/run/dovecot/login login_executable(default): /usr/lib/dovecot/imap-login login_executable(imap): /...

That pesky udial.wav again...
...letely contrived sample to test an audio codec with, but I'd hate to think that some idiot kid on slashdot will end up badmouthing vorbis because it goes to pieces on a sample like this. It would be a lot nicer if it failed to include the sweep and didn't contain artifacts. That said, fatboy.wav and hihat.wav where sounding pretty sweet most quality levels. Nice work :-) John --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage: http://www.xiph.org/ogg/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to 'vorbis-request@xiph.org' containing only the...

applaud.wav sounds worse in 1.0?
I've been running through a collection of hard to encode samples that the lame developers use, and others, doing ABX testing at various quality levels looking for my personal sweet spot. Last time I did this for RC3 I found that most samples where pretty transparent around the 3.5-4 region (my ears aren't that well trained, and I don't want them to be :-), but this time I noticed

MP3pro
So it looks like the Frauenhoffer boys are issuing an updated format -- MP3pro. They claim that it will give 128kbps/MP3 quality in 64kbps. I'm interested to see what others think of this. I'm also curious: I've seen others on the list say that Ogg/Vorbis' sound quality is "better" than MP3. Can this be quantified (or is this already on a web page somewhere)? I kinda

...but it leaves little room for guessing in what it might mean. At least "ENCODING" is a fairly ambiguous term, and worth avoiding. Consider transposing the two main ideas in the description for VERSION. For example: Some tracks come in different versions, such as "Live", "Fatboy Slim Remix", "Acoustic", &c. er, come to think of it...can you pick out an example where someone might put date or location information in that slot when it would be better placed in DATE or LOCATION? I'm not convinced that this would be a common point of deviation. / eg/ e...

Argh, preecho mistriggers
In case people on the list don't know it, A Vorbis tester (who's email I've lost! If you're on the list, speak up!) is maintaining a vorbis audio quality test page: http://hem.passagen.se/ingets1/vorbis.htm He's doing us the great service of hunting down samples that break Vorbis (so we don't have to :-) In any case, it turns out that the trumpets in the dr4 sample

Archival quality for music
This mail depends upon the fact that I don't have a couple of good earphones ;-) I read in the site that q=6 is a very high quality, but does it contain perceivable differencies from the original? (for 95% of people, of course). I also found q=6 to produce files slightly bigger (1/10 bigger) than those produced with lame VBR q=2 (about 192 bps on average). I always thought LAME VBR q=2

RC3: I'm impressed
...rison could evidence this. The difference lessened going to "-q 5". The omnipresent cut at 16 KHz in "-q 0" did not seem to bother more than some. At that quality, "applaud.wav" and "castanets.wav" rendered transparently. There are some artifacts in "fatboy.wav" when the voice goes low, but they disappered completely at "-q 3". In "velvet.wav" the hi-hat was a little flanged, but got OK at "-q 1". And that's it. The piano, the sax, the harpsichord, the voices, I could not detect the difference from the origin...
