Managing Switches.
All, I was looking at the new feature of puppet to manage switches, and it says: "A current limitation is that it isn’t possible to have 2 switches with the same interface name" Does this mean that if one switch has an interface called FastEthernet 0/1, that puppet can''t manage a second switch with an interface called FastEthernet 0/1? If so, that probably means you can manage a sum total of... 1 switch, given that interface names are pretty common... I hope I''m reading this wrong... Doug -- You received this message beca...

OT: RIP settings for private netblocks
I am contemplating converting some of our internal networks from routable to private IPv4 address space. I have a question about RIP as implemented under Cisco IOS 12.x. Presently the setting for rip is: router rip version 2 passive-interface [[FastEthernet]]0/0 network aaa.bbb.ccc.0 no auto-summary What I would like to know is how one routes the entire 192.168/16 address space using rip. My perusal of the various Cisco manuals, technical documents and various O'Rielly books is not giving me any clear answer and I am rather reluctant to experi...

Gigabit Ethernet and samba network bandwidth
Hi all, I am notice strange behaviour of samba in our mixed fastEthernet/gigabitEthernet enviroment. First of all let me to describe our situation. We have a samba server running debian unstable with 2.6.3 kernel installed. Server has a gigabit copper connection (tg3 driver) to the 100/1000 Megabit switch (3COM 4228G). Client is a WinXP/Linux workstation connected...

cisco dial-peer voip
I have 2610 XM with 1 Fastethernet and VIC2-2BRI. Dialin and dialout over pots is ok. Also inbound pots calls get redirected to Asterisk y.y.y.y So far so good. But I want to setup VOIP sessions with local carrier. I added dial-peer 40 for this. Session target x.x.x.x But calls will always get routed to the pstn peers 50 and 6...

Icecast Problems Get Worse
...cecast doesn't have SMP issues that I know of, as we ran it on SMP > systems for a long time. So let's go through all the obvious things: > > What kind of LAN is this on? Has it been recently reconfigured > (possible problem: duplexes might not be consistent, etc) It's a FastEthernet LAN. All ports are full duplex running through a Catalyst 2900. Both Icecast and Ices are running on the same machine. No errors on the ports, etc... > > Does icecast 0.1 behave differently? (possible problem: bug in ices > 0.2.2) Nope, Ices 0.1 does the same thing. > > Let'...

Special Delivery from China
...ty up to about 80 degrees - Large number buttons, 13 function buttons (redial, volume, etc) Shortfalls: - Caller-ID Name doesn't seem to work - MWI doesn't seem to exist - Dialplan isn't very flexible (pretty much requires #/send for all numbers) - PC port *may* be legacy (10mbps), not FastEthernet (100mbps); not yet benchmarked Requested improvements: - Second line appearance - configurable soft-keys - distinctive ring w/ auto-answer I should be able to resell these for $75 in quantity, $80-$85 for samples/endusers. Any takers? Once the CID Name & MWI are fixed, I'll set up a pre...

Good write, but slow read speeds over the network
...RAM server. I am experiencing different speeds when when writing to and reading from the pool. The pool itself consists of two FC LUNs that each build a vdev (no comments on that please, we discussed that already! ;) ). Now, I am having a couple of AFP clients that access this pool either via FastEthernet or even GiBitEthernet. The point is: write to these AFP shares are pretty fast. Due to the fairly hight amount of RAM I am getting transfer speeds of up to 90 MB/sec for a 5 GB file, which is not bad. But reading from the pool seems to pan out at 40 to 50 MB/sec. no matter what I am trying. Wh...

OT - Cisco IP Phone and PC in diferent VLANs (with 802.1x)
Hello to all I would like to know If some of you have already configured an Cisco IP Phone (7940 or 7960) to work in a different VLAN than the PC that is connected through the phone switch? I know that this can be done with the Skinny firmware, but I dont if it works with the SIP firmware. The Cisco technical staff told me that these phones dont support 802.1x but can work as pass-through.

I have several 7960 phones with SIP image (7.3) and Asterisk 1.0.1 on FreeBSD. When I have 2 active SIP calls on the 7960 phone there are no available lines for additional calls. I tried to configure 2 lines to the same SIP server but it's still limited to 2 calls. How to utilize all lines? -- Called user -- SIP/user-acc6 is ringing -- SIP/user-acc6 answered SIP/x.x.x.x-09a9a000 --
