deleting FakeRaid -> what happens to the partitions/data
Hi A server has FakeRAID installed, I want to remove it to make it mdadm driven .... If I delete the FakeRAID including - disabling it in the BIOS - removing the dmraid driver from initrd - deleting all meta data from partitions - deleting all dmraid packages is the data still available on the drives, i.e. the parti...

C5: prevent loading of AHCI in favor of "fakeraid" megaide
Hi, I'm trying to install an old fujitsu siemens econel 50 server. It uses an Intel chipset with ICH6R sata subsystem known as fakeraid. I have configured a Raid 1 with two 160GB hds. FS and Intel both provide a driver called megaide on a driver disk to use fakeraid and here is the problem: - The readme tells me to install with the "nostorage" kernel option and I can load the megaide driver with the driver disk. - i...

Slightly OT: FakeRaid or Software Raid
I have had great luck with nvidia fakeraid on RAID1, but I see there are preferences for software raid. I have very little hands on with full Linux software RAID and that was about 14 years ago. I am trying to determine which to use on a rebuild in a "standard" CentOS/Xen enviroment. It seems to me that while FakeRaid is/can...

RAID support in kernel?
Hello. I'm setting up a computer that will run 'CentOS 6 server'. The MB is an Asus with a hw raid controller (Promise PDC-20276), which I want to use in RAID-1 mode. I noted (from a MB website) that it also needs a driver - which is probably why it's called a 'fakeraid'. So, I've been trying to determine if any recent kernels support this chip. Using google.com/linux, I found lots of hits dating about 2002 - 04, and referencing the 2.4 kernel (which had the driver compiled into it). But, nothing newer. I checked kernel.org and kernelnewbies.org - I s...

In the first case run chkdsk /f on Windows then reboot into Windows twice. The usage of the /f parameter is very important! If the device is a SoftRAID/FakeRAID then first activate it and mount a different device under the /dev/mapper/ directory, (e.g. /dev/mapper/nvidia_eahaabcc1). Pleas...

CentOS 5.5 Sofware RAID1
I have the CentOS 5.5 install DVD and trying to install with software RAID1 on two 2TB SATA drives. The CentOS install only sees one drive. This is a Supermicro motherboard with fakeraid turned off in bios. I tried the trick like so: dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sda bs=512 count=64 dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdb bs=512 count=64 Still no go. linux rescue console does see both sda and sdb. Whats going on?

Intel RST RAID 1, partition tables and UUIDs
I have been having some problems with hardware RAID 1 on the motherboard that I am running CentOS 7 on. After a BIOS upgrade of the system, I lost the RAID 1 setup and was no longer able to boot the system. Testdisk revealed that the partition tables had been damaged and because I had earlier saved information from fdisk, I was able to recreate the partitions. However, booting into the BIOS and

CentOS 5.5 does not recognise SAS drives with LSI 1068E Controller
I need to do a new CentOS net install on a new server having the Supermicro X7DVL-3 motherboard: http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/xeon1333/5000V/X7DVL-3.cfm Based on that info I assume the board having a "8x SAS Ports via LSI 1068E Controller". We received the server with 3 drives + 1 spare as hw RAID-5 preinstalled. During bootup I see that the drives are initialised

chainboot Windows on second drive
...on for Fedora (containing /, /home, and linux swap) Second drive (raid0 array): - primary partition (boot flag) for Windows XP (ntfs) - various Windows partitions I can boot Fedora and the rescue Windows system with extlinux but I can't boot my regular Windows system on raid0. Raid0 is a 'fakeraid' (ich9r) but the problem should not be here. With grub, I have to swap drives to chainboot Windows using map commands. I can't find such command for extlinux and I guess this is the problem. If I try to chainboot Windows XP, it will start my rescue Windows system instead. Here's my ext...

Entry server hardware
...able to work in a 32 bit/33mhz PCI slot. I have been looking for a while but all I can find is 64 bit cards that cost over $300. I just need it to mirror 2 drives, and of course work in Centos 4.2. I am not looking for RAID 5 or anything like that. All the cards I find that would do this are fakeraid. Also, has anyone used the SATA Iomega Rev drive in Centos 4.2? Mine does not show up but it works on a default load of Suse 9.3...? Any help would be great.

Not able to run kernel-xen with megasr module :/
I've managed to install CentOS 5.1 on S5000PAL with fakeraid Intel Embedded Raid Technology II Raid1 (LSI chipset) with some help of kickstart declaration 'driverdisk --source=http://.../driver.img' Then I've had some problems with yum update - new kernel didn't know about megasr.ko.
