Re: [PATCH nbdkit 0/2] Rewrite xz plugin as a filter.
...(in fact both are useful). Let's say you have an XZ file with a 100,000 byte block size. Then reading two blocks at 0-1000 and 1000-2000 would result in reading and uncompressing a whole block twice. The block cache in the xz plugin/filter avoids this; the cache on top does not. Interesting factoid: www.mirrorsite.org rapidly throttles any connection that makes repeated range requests ... However if you open a new connection it is unaffected by the throttling on the existing connection (I thought it would throttle based on IP address). Anyway this, combined with the large block size in the...

Samba 2.0.5a problems
...s 2.6 (either X86 or SPARC). A quick search of the archives shows someone else had this same problem on HPUX (I think when the 2.x line of SAMBA was still in beta) but I couldn't find any responses to his post. Has anyone else seen this problem ? Thanks, Craig PS Another strange factoid - while using 'testparm' to debug this problem I found that the new security mask parameters had some weird defaults (like 0377777777). I explicitly set them in my smb.conf in case that was a problem but it made no difference. Craig Huckabee E-Mail : huck@cs.wisc.edu Computer Syst...

[LLVMdev] how to build Java frontend for LLVM?
I haven't built those pieces myself, so take this all with a grain of salt. It looks like you need another tool, treecc, to build pnet. The referenced website looks to have expired (advertising parking page there now); however, google turns up http://www.freshports.org/lang/treecc which looks like it might at least be a place to start. Winbind Authentication Problem
...tication doesn't work. When browsing from a Windows box, I don't even get that far. I have set up several Samba boxes, but never used Winbind before, so I expect I'm missing something simple here. Using Samba 3.0.4-5 rpms compiled by Sernet (SuSE) on SuSE Pro 9.0 with all updates. Factoids: The box appears in NT4's Server Manager highlighted (so it's a domain member server as far as the domain is concerned.) Net Neighborhood on a Windows box shows an icon for the Samba server. From the Samba box running smbclient -L SHIRAZ generates a password prompt (doesn't matter...

With the installed base of IAX2 and the new MicroBlogMedia platform, this will be an even more impressive solution, reaching millions of IAX2 users in the enterprise as well as public sector and homes." * Technichal factoids ---------------------------- - chan_tweet is the result of the project labelled "Codename orangepeel" amongst the development team and builds on the new "Pinemango" architecture. can you help me with empirical probability
...h-related probability. The National Center for Health Statistics, a division of the Center for Disease Control, (http://www.cdc.gov/nchs) collects and publishes data of a health related nature. The web site mostly contains data that have been already statistically summarized along with a variety of factoids. The "FASTATS A to Z" link off the main page leads to an alphabetical list of topics that are interesting to peruse. For instance, a look at the comprehensive data under Allergies reveals the fact that in 1997, there were 18.092 million cases of hay fever in the US among people 1...

got nut 2.8.1 but despite reinstall, shows 2.7.4
gene heskett <gheskett at shentel.net> writes: > Which file in the nut I pulled a month ago, should I start with to get > the new version actually running? I still get - -V=2.7.4 It is likely that you have built new nut but old nut is still on your system. I do a 'sudo make install' to write over the distribution nut (on NetBSD/pkgsrc, surely not what you are using).

having trouble building r-devel
...I am totally clueless (not being a user of either Linux or C) and just mechanically follow the instructions in the R documentation; hence I've got no idea what to do when things snarf. More information below. Any advice appreciated-- I'm trying to test a patch for R2.0.0. Mark Background factoids: 1. The tools.zip file that I use is dated 9/5/2003. 2. I did expunge the R-devel directory before unzipping the .tar.gz and building. 3. I made my usual 2 changes to default MkRules (WINHELP=NO and TCL_HOME=C:/R/Tcl). 4. I don't have the Latex "bin" directory in the search path,...

Red Hat release info
Hi all, I''m looking at changing the operatingsystemrelease fact for Red Hat. Linux currently just uses the kernel release as the operating system release, but I''ve got a client who wants the release to have both the specific distro (e.g., AS or EL) and the release (e.g., 3 or 4). Will this particularly annoy anyone? Anyone want to help make the release string work on

Problems with mongrel dying
...= 14400 and this did not fix the problem. Note I am using 0.3.13.5 because I had problems with 0.3.13.4 not restarting when my railsmachine system reboots. However, I would gladly switch back to 0.3.13.4 if it solved this problem. Useage is very low - only about 50-200 requests / hour. One more factoid - may be irrelevant, but it appears that shortly before each of the four crashes, one or two pdf files were downloaded from my public directory - which I believe apache does bypassing mongrel. Suggestions? Thanks Robert Vogel Error messages in mongrel.log generated during restart: Tue Oct 31...
