Domain unavaliable
First off, I'd like to give all the people involved with the development of Samba a big thanks. I'd have to say that Samba is probably the single most important piece of software that we run in our research lab. I'd also like to say that I have had so few problems that I probably haven't written about one in 3 years. With that being said, I'm having problems with my Samba

savehistory in OSX version
Running Version 2.6.0 GUI 1.21. Generally, I enjoy working with the OSX GUI, which has some very pleasant features. Kudos to the developers! There is a nice history panel which slides out of the Console window. The buttons on the panel work as expected. I am puzzled by the behavior of history() and savehistory() run from the Console window. I would think that these functions would view and

Compression of largish expression array files in the DAAGbio/inst/doc directory?
The inst/doc directory of the DAAG package has 6 files coral551.spot, ... that are around 0.85 MB each. It would be useful to be able to zip then, but that as matters stand interferes with the use of the Sweave file that uses them to demonstrate input of expression array data that is in the "spot" format. They do not automatically get unzipped when required. I have checked that

There are some question marks over how well the 'make; used on Windows works in parallel (we found one case where it worked incorrectly and had to rethink share/make/winshlib.mk) so it should be used with caution. removing daylight savings in R
Hi all, I've been having some trouble with times in regards to daylight savings in R version 2.8.1. I have an ORACLE database that R is importing data in from, for the 2am and 2:30am time intervals for the dates that daylight savings starts the times are getting read as NA values into R. I'm also finding that if I open a R workspace from version 6.2.2,the datetimes are

VoIP extn number planning
...itching facility (eg, asterisk in this case). The voip number that is assigned doesn't make a lot of difference today as the current spotty/independent voip-system implementations really don't address voip call completion on a larger/nationwide voip scale (other than through existing pstn facilties). The approach in #1 would suggest that each "remote" voip system must do some sort of lookup on a per-number basis for call completion routing. Keep in mind the exact same number is accessible via the existing pstn network or via a voip network. The approach in #2 would suggest remote...

R: log-normal distribution and shapiro test
Hi, from what you're writing: "The logaritmic transformation "shapiro.test(log10(y))" says: W=0.9773, p-value= 2.512e-05." it seems the log-values are not distributed normally and so original data are not distributed like a log-normal: the p-value is extremally small! Other tests for normality are available in package: nortest compare the log-transformation of your ecdf

R-beta: SEs for one-param MLE in R?
Simple-mindedly I tried getting MLE and SE for one-parameter model in the same way as for multi-param models. out<-nlm(fn,p=c(2),hessian=T) But sqrt(diag(solve(out$hessian))) gives the answer 1. The Hessian has only one entry, not really a matrix. diag(x) gives 1 if x is just a single number. Is this what I should be doing to get SE for MLE? sqrt(solve(out$hessian)) Thanks very much for
