Hello,
I am new to using opus but so far I really am loving it. At 16kbps
spoken content sounds fabulous.
I am using opusenc on 64-bit linux - mostly with flac input.
The one thing I can't figure out how to do is add album art. I tried
passing the vorbis way of adding a metadata_block_picture comment field
to opusenc but it complained about the length.
I can't seem to find any applicatio...

How does yum decide when 2 packages meet a dependency?

That's fabulous. You mean Phil could have fixed my issue by renaming the
package priiiiiimus so that the name was longer than mesa-libGL ;)

zfs root eta?
Hi, I was just wondering if ZFS root is likely to be an install
option any time soon, either in SXCR or the June Solaris update?
The mechanism at Tabriz''s blog seem to work well, but it''d be nice
to get it out of the box.

UseR! 2010 - my impressions
Dear UseRs!,
Everything about UseR! 2010 was terrific! I really mean "everything" - the tutorials, invited talks, kaleidoscope sessions, focus sessions, breakfast, snacks, lunch, conference dinner, shuttle services, and the participants. The organization was fabulous. NIST were gracious hosts, and provided top notch facilities. The rousing speech by Antonio Possolo, who is the chief of Statistical Engineering Division at NIST, set the tempo for the entire conference. Excellent invited lectures by Luke Tierney, Frank Harrell, Mark Handcock, Diethelm Wurtz,...

Seattle Meetup?
Hi all,
It looks like I''ll be in Seattle on Sunday, September 16th through
Tuesday the 18th, and I''d like to have Puppet Meetup either Sunday or
Monday night.
On Adam''s recommendation, I''ll be staying at the Queen Anne Inn, so
something near there would be best. Hopefully Adam or Blake can do
the actual organization. :)
Any takers?

Ordering of names on X- and Y-axis
...e
...
(roughly 40,000 lines in total)
I am interested in how many counts of each item in the second row I get for
each item in the first.
I read it in using
qt <- read.table("~/results.table", header=TRUE, sep=",")
And then I plot it:
plot(qt, col=color)
That works really fabulous, I am amazed.
BUT: R orders the names on the x- and y-axes ("Sentences", "Paragraphs" etc.
for y) alphabetically. That's a reasonable thing to do of course, especially
because I didn't tell R in which order I'd like to have them. Nevertheless,
I'd like to have...

cross-platform portable code in CRAN Repository Policy

| I think that Linux is just one. Is it hard to make it work on macOS?

| I am not saying that if it is Linux-only then it definitely cannot make it

| A CRAN maintainer will decide that.
Gabor is *way* too modest here to not mention the *fabulous* tool he has
written (with the [financial] support of the R Consortium): R Hub.
These days I just do 'rhub::check_for_cran()' and four tests launch
covering the three required OSs as well as the required r-devel and r-release
versions. Results tickle in within minutes by mail; th...

Quantreg-rq crashing trouble
Hi
I am using the quantreg package for median regression for a large series
of subsets of data. It works fabulously for all but one subset. When it
reaches this subset, R takes the command and never responds. I end up
having to kill R and restart it.
It appears to be something with the particular data subset, but I can't
pinpoint the problem.
Here are some details

more or less pager
R-users,
(forgive my return adres)
I've been breaking my head why R---which i find fabulous, by the
way---does not pipe interactive output through a pager (more or less),
like it does with help(), or like GNU Octave does with arrays with more
than terminal height rows.
Maybe it is my installation (Debian/GNU Linux). Maybe it is my
configuration, but i don't think so because...

...hich doesn't to correspond to the "usr"
coordinates.
I also tried to convert between inches and "usr" coordinates using
"xy.coords", but the result did not correspond to the position
returned by "locator".
I'm also aware of "mtext" and its fabulous arguments "side" and
"line", but there I loose the functionality of displaying the legend
symbols.
Finally, I found a hint about using "layout", but there I admit I
would need more than a hint - a small tutorial or graphical example
with code would be very helpful....

CentOS 5.4 is around the corner ...
So this time we we've been a bit faster than during the last two
releases (5.3 and 4.8). Which means: We would like you to get working on
the fantastic and fabulous CentOS Release Notes again!
This time you can find the first stub at
http://wiki.centos.org/Manuals/ReleaseNotes/CentOS5.4
which will change over the next few days - so keep alert!
I'd like to thank you for all the work you put into the last release
notes and in the release notes before...

Canon MP780 driver
Hi all,
New member here and new to Linux. Please excuse me if my questions
appear a bit dumb.
I have just installed CentOS 4 and I am playing around. I must say the
install process was fabulous and I had no problems. I am now playing
with a few of the apps.
I have a Canon Pixma MP780 multi-function centre which was correctly
identified by the installer however I cannot find a driver for it and
hence cannot print to it.
Does anyone know if a Linux driver exists for this printer or

Custom install DVD with new (SB600 chipset & Intel network) kernel modules
First, congratulations on the fabulous CentOS Wiki.
About the only information that I haven't found on it
is how to create a custome install DVD with
added kernel modules -- e.g. when the standard
install DVD does not support the motherboard
chipset (SATA drives & network cards not
recognized, for example) and network card....

ZFS on Linux testing effort
Hey,
http://zfsonlinux.org/epel.html
If you have a little time and resource please install and report back
any problems you see.
A filesystem or Volume sits within a zpool
a zpool is made up of vdevs
vdevs are made up of block devices.
zpool is similar to LVM volume
vdev is similar to raid set
devices can be files.
Thanks,
Andrew

mvbutils and trackObjs
...Mark Bravington's mvbutils package for organizing analysis projects in a tree.
Using cd(), Save(), fixr(), mlazy() etcetera solves nicely some of the nuisances that have worried or annoyed me and sometimes caused
big problems over the years. Well thought out.
Now one feature that would be fabulous would be automatic time-stamping of objects.
The trackObjs package from provides this, among other services.
The question is, can the two packages work together peacefully?
One curiosity: they have opposite ideas of the word "cache".
In mvbutils, a cached object is one that is stored...
