dovecot cannot drop privileges inside singularity container

dovecot version is 2.3.4.1 (configuration below) running on debian
buster, inside a container made with singularity version 3.4.2
unfortunately, when I try to start dovecot, it gives:

ITERINDEX not showing subfolders.

Hello, we're using mail on NFS and the indexes on localdisk, with a
director setup. (18K+ users) now to get more performance i thought to use
the ITERINDEX option. however this has the side-effect on some mailboxes
that it doesn't show the subfolders under INBOX...

Delayed flags changes over IDLE

If I use another email app to add or remove a message, Dovecot sends that (EXISTS / EXPUNGE) instantly and also flushes the (so far delayed) flags changes. So it does "know" already.
The system is Debian Testing, 64 bit, file system is ext4.
Dovecot is 2.3.4.1 (f79e8e7e4) - I believe from Debian repos (I had Dovecot's own repo added at some point, disabled now).
My mail is stored under ~/mail/.imap (not sure what this format is called), I mean not "single file mbox".
I have not changed any IDLE related config settings:

How to use dovecot only as POP3 server / prevent it from creating .imap directories?
...se this should not be a problem at all if IMAP is not used. I have played around with dovecot for several days, but could not solve that problem.
So how can I turn off IMAP completely and prevent dovecot from creating any .imap directories or IMAP related files?
This happens with dovecot 2.3.4.1 (f79e8e7e4) on Debian buster (with all updates applied).
My configuration (doveconf -n) is (the configuration is complete - I don't use SQL or LDAP):

How to use dovecot only as POP3 server / prevent it from creating .imap directories?
...urn off IMAP completely and prevent dovecot from creating any .imap directories or IMAP related files?
I suppose you'd be OK with having IMAP but having it look *only* at the
designated mbox file.
That would be something I could use.

Message-id parsing by sieve
Hi,
I'm using Dovecot for my mail with pigeonhole's sieve extension,
from debian stable (2.3.4.1 (f79e8e7e4)).
One of the sieve stanzas that I use is for duplicate elimination:

This mostly works fine, but I seem to have trouble with some messages

IMAP tuning for Outlook 365

I'm looking for advices on IMAP config tuning for best user experience
with Outlook 365.
I'm currently using dovecot 2.3.4.1 (f79e8e7e4) provided with Debian 10.
One of my users has Outlook 365 and an IMAP mailbox of large size with
several folders (more than 3GB).
From time to time as his main inbox folder is growing he can see some

Flags/tags lost when moving e-mails to another folder

In both folders, the dovecot-keywords file is:

The problem appeared after a major system upgrade (Debian 9 to
10). Dovecot version went from 2.2.27 to 2.3.4.1.

permission denied errors with INDEX=MEMORY and trees plugin

deliver mail using dovecot-lda or lmtp.
Is there any way to fix this or at the very least suppress the error
